    Posted on behalf of evilrobotshane:

    Ops - a weekend-long milsim fest

    3 days, 2 nights, 5 games.

    The first weekend of July is Ops at HRTA in north county Dublin. A collection of themed airsoft games using milsim rules, you'll need to watch your back, trust your fire-team, obey your commander, and count your shots. Whether you're infiltrating a hostile Caucasian village, scrounging for survival in the post-apocalypse, or simply alone in the dark not knowing who to trust we aim to make this the most fun weekend in Irish airsoft.

    Ops will run from Friday evening the 2nd of July to Sunday evening the 4th of July. There'll be a game on Friday evening, a night game on Friday night, an all-day game on Saturday, a night game on Saturday night, and a competitive all-day game on Sunday. Apart from all that, there'll be:

    * Camping
    * Bonfires
    * Barbecueing
    * An airsoft shop
    * A table quiz (tables not guaranteed)
    * Movie screenings
    * Pick-up airsoft games
    * Sideshow airsoft skill games

    Games are individual stand-alone scenarios, not linked, so people can come and go over the weekend as suits them. One game, a day, or the works, it's your choice.

    More information will be released as it's confirmed!

    The website for the event has been launched, it's at http://ops-game.info/ Thanks to Cian from ACOG for that!

    Space will be provided to pitch tents, or you can sleep in the cabins if you prefer (although you'll be kicked out before game on each morning!).

    South-East Airsoft will be on-site with The Outpost, selling all kinds of exciting airsoft necessities and unnecessities. They've also promised... tactical burgers again!

    Friday evening:
    Sparks to Tinder by Stonewolf from ACOG
    Ogens Hole was like any other Badlands settlement, a small insular community centered around a water source populated by hardy civilians with no interest in inter-league politics. When Northern Guard forces showed up in the surrounds the villagers initially sent a message reminding them of the settlement's independence; when the Southern MILICIA sent a response force the villagers went to ground. Despite the official public line on their “regular patrols and goodwill enhancement” both parties were mostly there because of the other and were taking full advantage to recon the area for future military purposes. Of course, with so many troops in such close proximity the outcome was predictable.

    Saturday:
    Aftermath: Once Upon a Time in Hellsgate by evilrobotshane from ACOG

    The Last War has blown itself out; survivors of the apocalypse scavenge the carcass of the old world to live. This poisoned town once had another name, but commanding the entranceway to a major city's irradiated husk it's become known as Hellsgate. It's a lethally volatile place, where the rogue town militia and the criminal Sweetwater gang vie for control of the zone, the resources and the trade. Their uneasy truce won't survive being shaken up, and the arrival of an opportunistic mercenary unit might be the match that's needed to burn Hellsgate to the ground.

    The Sweetwaters are over there, the Militia there, and us right smack in the middle? That crazy bartender was right; there's money to be made in a town like this.

    Sunday:
    No One Gets Left Behind by sliabh from The MilSim Library

    Gregor Abbasov's terrorist organisation has been neutralised. All that remains is to eliminate the man himself. He has fled to his home village of Garamammadi in the lawless Caucasian state of Mazajan. Taskforce "Celestial" has been sent to kill or capture him. The clan militia in Garamammadi will defend their own to the death though, and the need for plausible deniability means "Celestial" can't leave evidence of their origins. In this part of the world people don't have to wear a uniform or carry a gun to be hostile...

    Friday or Saturday night, to be determined:
    Dying of the Light by Hivemind187 from Rules of Engagement
    Operation: Dying of the Light

    The jungles, forests and plateau's of central America are home to terrors of all kinds. Some are natural. Some are of our own making.

    Who do you trust in the dark?

    (a game of suspense, pacing, thinking and nerve. Requires the use of radios so BRING THEM!)

    Not yet, need to do a bit of braining and discussing on that one. It'll be announced here as soon as we know though. I certainly don't want any given day of it costing much more than any other day of airsoft though.

    Nice one, you've got plenty of time to tell work what time it is. :)

    I can't believe I forgot to mention that. Yes, definitely; in fact, beer-drinking facilities will be provided (specifically, the ground, and aforementioned bonfire).

    The Saturday daytime game will run straight through the day, with lunch drops into the field. It'll be finished before dinnertime though. The only breaks will be when you're dead and waiting to respawn. The night game will be shorter, probably 2 to 3 hours, with no breaks. The Sunday game will be broken up into 3 segments with a break between each.

    you can definatly count me in

    will this be a larp'ing event/game series or more milsim based?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭sliabh

    Speaking for "No one get's left behind", this scenario is almost entirely Mil-Sim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭evilrobotshane

    This Aftermath game will be similar in style to the previous one, but with more individual decision-making and internal conflict.

    I realise the term 'milsim' is horrifically misused in Ireland; I know this isn't helping the problem, but can't think of a solution. For the purposes of the weekend, read it more as 'themed non-speedball' than packing all your kit in on your back.

    There's two more games yet to be chosen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

    Dying of the Light is on a par with the usual RoE faire, so for some people it will have more role-play and for others it will have more MilSim - it's essentially down to the way you play it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭gungun

    just one thing regarding loadouts, for some games would loadouts such as big mega tactical multicam etc be suitable and for other games a post apocolyptic loadout?
    also fair play to everyone organising this, gonna try my best to get there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭evilrobotshane

    Once Upon a Time in Hellsgate will be in a post-apocalyptic setting, and while appropriate costume isn't required, it's appreciated by both the organisers and the other players. The full line-up of games isn't finalised yet, but normal airsoft tactical kit will probably be fine for the rest.

    Thanks for the question, here's hoping you can make it!

    Gutted to have to miss this Shane - but the month of July 2010 looks like it will go down in history as the fecking month of weddings - so while all this greatness is going on I'll be in wedding hell in Spain trying to keep parts of my family from killing each other.
    Rather a brap any day...

    The website has been launched at http://ops-game.info/ and the Friday evening game, Sparks to Tinder, has been announced. More info in the informational post at the start of the thread!

    I hope to use camouflage colour to split teams in Sparks to Tinder.

    Northern Guard will be Tan/Desert
    Southern MILICIA will be Woodland/Urban

    My thoughts exactly - but they keep muttering about it being a 'special' day or some such crap. They just don't understand...

    We've got prices finalised for this now:

    Long game: €20 (the Saturday and Sunday daytime games - cost includes lunch drop)
    Short game: €10 (the night games and Friday evening)
    Full weekend access: €50

    As per HRTA's generous policy, half-price for those in tight financial spots, such as the unempolyed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭evilrobotshane

    Hmm, it seems the informational post near the top of the thread has passed its expiry date for my ability to edit it. All future updates are going to have to go at the end of the thread and on the website so. I'll ditch my nasty mean sig (even though it's had a little success) and stick a link in there too.

    Yeah for reduced prices, I should be able to come.

    My new AEG may work with a new battery, but it may be broken.

    Take it in to a retailer and ask if they'll test it with a different battery for you. They generally have a few charged ones around, especially if they do repairs and will usually do it on the spot if you're polite.

    Two weeks after the leaving for a weekend milsim event? And only 50quid. Hell yeah I'm going might bring a friend or two if I can wing it.

    Less than a month to go now!

    I'm looking forward to this quite a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭evilrobotshane

    But not 30 days less than a month. A few people came up to me at Sennybridge the other day mentioning Ops being on this weekend. It's at the start of July, folks, not June! Easy mistake to make.

    Having it a week after the national Sennybridge exodus would have been silly, anyway.

    Timetable's nearly confirmed; The Dying of the Light will be on Friday night when, you know, the light dies. We're still uncertain which of two possible games to run on Saturday night, but they're both great options.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭gerrowadat

    I've stuck up a forum similar to the one for sennybridge over here : http://forum.hawksairsoft.com/viewforum.php?f=42

    Hawks will be using it to discuss what we're doing at the event, but anyone is welcome.

    This is shaping up to be the event of the year in Irish airsoft/milsim/RP so far, let's hope it encourages others to make or solidify plans for events :-)

    AGAIN!!?!?!

    I'll be in england at a LRP event that weekend, god sakes man can you please check my schedule before picking dates for these events :p, I really want to actually make one of them!

    Hope it all goes well and i'm sure it'll be a great weekend.

    When night begins to fall on the sleepy town of Woodinvale, the shadows and fog rolling in bring with them more than just a chill shiver. A living nightmare erupts as the once-peaceful community is overrun with the restless dead… scratching and clawing their way to the surface with an insatiable hunger for human flesh. Now only a handful of unlikely Heroes are left, banding together to fight for their very lives. On a night that never ends, the only thing worse than death… is becoming infected.

    Last Night is a game of survival horror, pitting a rotating team against zombie all-comers in turn. A small group of survivors stands against the undead horde, armed and equipped with little but their wits. Around the town are the items they'll need to fight back and complete their mission, but with often-conflicting motives, sacrifices and difficult decisions will need to be made.

    Each group will be given a random mission from a set, with each member having a randomly-selected special ability and personal goal. Complete all personal goals and the mission and you're home free! After each game, another group gets a go, and everyone else plays the zombies.

    No non-protective airsoft gear will be allowed into the game - if you want a gun, maybe there's one in the police station, or there could be a bat in the school gym? (this includes radios, grenades, torches and all that jazz)

    Because everybody will get a chance to play in both roles (hero and zombie), civilian clothing will be appreciated and full face protection is mandatory (you might well want all-around protection too). Because you shoot 'em in the head.

    Edit: Oh, in case anyone's interested, this is based on the pretty spiffy board game Last Night On Earth.

    Slow (proper!), unless we're really short on players and need to balance the sides.

    Fifty quid per person, same as a standard weekend pass should do the trick. You can also play in any games you want, and we should be able to provide a lockable cabin for to flog your wares. I'll confirm that and get back to you.
    Also will there be tents there or will we have to take one down?
    There won't be any provided; for sleeping you can use the cabins that are all over the site, or bring your own tent. For general safe-zone hanging around, there's a number of cabins there too.
