Hmmm....seems like another dragged out Flash Forward, not keen on Blair Underwood either.

Certainly looks like it has potential.

    Looking forward to it.

Looks quite overwrought. I can see it becoming a bit of a mess very quickly. At the very least it might be outrageous and daft, rather than a bit of a bore.

Looks like it could be interesting all right, but as others have said it has a bit of a feel of FlashForward to it. Hopefully they'll do better FF; though to be honest that wouldnt be hard.

First few episodes look like they could be entertaining at least.

    Flash Forward meets Lost.

Has a decent enough cast[mainly Željko Ivanek and Scott Paterson] , and interesting premise, but then again Flashforward has a decent cast and interesting premise...

Lets just hope it dosen't to the way of Flash Forward, from what i've seen it's very similiar.

Well it looks ok, but we'll see how it goes.

Personally I think the first episode will make or break it for me, I'm not being strung along like I was with Flashforward. LOST strung us along too but it was at least some damn fine TV.

That trailer got removed for some reason. Here it is again

That's what I was thinking but we're not meant to mention it. :pac:

It's OK to mention it, but for the love of God - Please Remain Indoors!

Also, The Event looks decent. Will need to be more than a FlashForward/lost clone, but worth a look.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s123/the-event/news/a264691/the-event-creator-promises-answers.html
The Event creator Nick Wauters has promised that viewers will not have to wait long for a resolution to the show's mysteries.

He explained to the Los Angeles Times that the new drama would answer as many questions as it posed.

"There is a major twist at the end of the [first] episode that helps you to understand what the confines of the show are," he said. "[Then] in the first fifteen minutes of episode two, you're going to get several major answers.

"That was definitely something I wanted to do - making sure that we would give the audience major answers every week and then keep setting up new questions, new problems and new mysteries."

Wauters explained that despite featuring multiple plotlines, the show's core focus would be Sean (Jason Ritter) and his search for his missing girlfriend.

"There's going to be a lot of different storylines going on, but I think people will be able to tune in and follow the story every week," he claimed.

He added that the series would contain "adventure", "mystery" and "political intrigue".

"I was trying to create a show that would have a little bit of everything for everyone," he admitted. "So I think everyone who tunes in will hopefully find something that they like."

The Event will premiere on September 20 on NBC.

Will The Event learn from Flash Forward?....time will tell.

Lost of fans, bloggers and reviewers predicting DOOM for The Event....on the back of FF and Lost i suspect, lots of cynics about:

Kicks off tonight on NBC after Chuck....will this be YOUR "event" tv, or another Flash Forward?

This looks absolutely dreadful. Kindof a relief as it's one less show to have to worry about shoe-horning into my schedule :D I imagine No Ordinary Family will also miss that boat.

    Oh.

So that's how you get to the Island from Lost.

Will watch next episode and see where this is going.

Haven't watched this yet and don't intend to unless it gets some really strong support here on boards. Anyone think its the next big thing or will it be the next FlashForward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Hard to tell based on the ending. It seemed a bit messy in terms of jumping back to different points in time for each character but we actually don't know what the show is about yet. There were enough interesting questions to bring you back for another episode or two but if they start draggin stuff out with no answers it will quickly go the way of Flashforward.

It probably needed a 2 hour premiere when you think about it.

I really hope they drop the whole "ten minutes ago", "13 days ago" bollox. It makes it really hard to feel any sort of attachment to any of the characters.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

My opinion?...intriguing, but very cautiously, i see alot of parallels between The 4400 and Flash Forward, i've heard people say it's 24 meets Lost....but i disagree, 24 in terms of quick firing pacing and Lost with the mystery element and time jumping.

I dislike the "11 minutes ago" format, it just makes it confusing for the dumbed down masses, but....i had about enough to warrent a second ep.
I'm not a fan of Jason Ritter, but i can't fault casting SUPER BABES Taylor Cole (drool) and Sarah Romero....i'd love to be the meat in that sandwich!

I'm undecided about the show, i smell a major FF debacle already, we'll get strung out...few questions answered but more get raised each week...and on and on we go.

Agree with a lot of that, the time thign just seemed all over the place and unnecessary  Lost comparisons with the plane and flashs ok but it;s nothing like lost or 24 for that matter. 4400 is spot on and thats where I see it going with Dr. Weaver ;) Mystery element was forced in the extreme.

This will be this season flashforward for sure, sh1tcanned after s1.

Not to say I didn't like it mind you, I'll go with it but get the feeling I'm pissing in the wind again.

Im hoping the fractured narrative they employed in this episode was simply for setting up as many questions as possible for the season ahead and not indicative of what subsequent episodes will be like as if you miss a 13 days earlier caption reading a text you're pretty much f**ked .

Having watched it I already have a theory on who the detainees are :
The 97 detainees are the surviving passengers of flight 514 who at episode end were sucked through a time portal into the future where they are warned of a coming catastrophic Event and sent back to the 60's(why 60's you ask - the presidents is told by advisors that because of his cuban heritage he can't be objective which makes me think bay of pigs cuban missile crisis era) with the knowledge or skills to stop it but end up being detained in the Inostronka facility by a cold war paranoid US government .

I really enjoyed this. The back and forthing of time didnt bother me that much and there was enough there to have me back for Episode 2.

I think I'm not going to watch this until it's been given a green light for S2. Fed up with watching shows that are going nowhere. This one does sound an awful lot like Flash Forward, which is not good news.

Raised enough interest to make me watch a couple of episodes, some poor acting and the stupid overlapping flashbacks hardly make it a classic though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

Like most others here I thought it was good enough but the constant jumping from 10 minutes ago to a couple of days ago etc was annoying so I hope they cut that out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Meh... it was 40 minutes of vapid (albeit stylish) nonsense with an air of mystery with Laura Innes line at the end.

It felt all a bit familiar for some reason.

Not hugely impressed... most places are calling this the best pilot of the Fall.. I f*cking weep if that's the case tbh.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

^ i can kinda understand the "best pilot" monicker....but i think Nikita is right beside it if that's the case, it was strong...but the best?, open to opinion on that one!

Any pilot with an air of mystery in the last few years has been called "the best pilot"... I honestly think too many sites / critics are looking for the next 'Lost'.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

Meh is about what i'd describe it. could see the end coming, about how some supernatural thing would stop the plane.

the whole jumping back/forward in time was kinda head-wrecking. made it hard to follow. i don't think i'm going to pick it up to watch. might leave it until it's been decided whether it gets a second season or not. oh flashforward, see what you've done to me :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,225 ✭✭✭Scruff

Meh indeed. That and Flashforwards, flashbackwards, flashside-to-side, flash-up-and-down-and-around-and-around. Feel queasy yet?

Major spoiler for ep. 2 -
Question: I just saw the premiere of The Event, and it was so good! Do you have any scoops? —Marie-Eve
Ausiello: I just watched next week’s episode and was completely satisfied with both the quality and quantity of the answers we got. In addition to learning what happened to the plane and its inhabitants, we find out what turned Scott Patterson into the pilot from hell and who exactly The Others (a.k.a. Laura Innes & Co.) are. Bonus scoops: A rather pivotal character from the premiere is murdered, and someone else is not who he/she claims to be.

One of the problems with Flash Forward was David S. Goyer's plan of revealing little to nothing in episodes 2-9, like they simply didn't have enough material for a season...let alone 5.

Whereas above ^ it seems answers are being given and quick, but will be same playbook for FF befall The Event?
