Question about Guidance Counselling!

    Hi all,
Just a quick question to any guidance counsellors out there, I am in the final year of my degree and I'm doing the P.G.C.E next year but what I really want to be is a guidance counsellor, always have. My question is-would I be totally jumping ahead of myself thinking I could move onto a guidance counsellor a course straight after my dip. or would I need to gain a few years experience actually working first. It wasn't my intention to go straight into it but its just that the job prospects aren't looking that great at the minute and I thought doing it sooner rather than later would improve my hireability!
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
    SS

just to let you know that alot of guidance courses look for teaching experience normally around two years or more or youthwork or something similar before theyl accept you on course and i think demand for the courses tend to be quite high so going straight into it may or may not be a possibilty but if you can and its what you wanna do then go for it!

yeah I sort of thought that a few years experience would be necessary...I should probably just focus on getting through next year and think about it again when I've a bit more practical experience and money.....hopefully!!
