i have recently noticed a lot of people seem to dislike toyota glanzas just wondering why is it the type of people who own them or is it just there a crap car having never driven one i cant really judge this but from what i see i think there allright 1.3 turbo sounds like a cheap bit of fun i may be wrong though

At a risk of offending people:

A lot of them tend to be driven by youngfellas that look too young to drive looking for the fastest thing they can insure.

A lot of them are driven very badly.

They don't handle too well in standard form.

TO be fair to them, they can be quick, and they're relatively reliable. but in this country at least they have a very knackery image.

its a pitty that is the case that the few can ruin it for the many

Agree with all the above and add that quite a few people seem to insure them as standard starlets which just p*sses me off.

Don't let the image/rep a car has put you off buying one though. Someone can think you're a young scummer but as long as you're happy and don't act the maggot then who cares?

I think its cos that so many people insure them as a 1.3 standard and most of the people who drive em arent used to quick cars and end up crashing them.:(

Being 18, and a young male, I've driven one (Ohhhhh the stereotype).
It was a seriously quick car for the size of it, and the particular one I drove was putting out 186bhp, with dyno records to prove. It was tiny inside, barely space to move your head, rear visibility was crap thanks to the tinted mirror thing on the back window, back seats were amazingly cramped, passenger is practically hugging the driver. Torque steer was a disaster in this particular 'thing', it wanted to send me over the kerb and into the wall while I aimed straight down the road....seriously quick, but I couldn't live with it.

I went by a few guards, not one looked at me, not one even tilted they're head so much as an inch, they simply didn't mind! The turbo was annoying in this little thing, it was too strong for such a small car, it was easy enough to handle, but could tell it was outside of it's limits.

    Stupid little car overall

well, dont know about all this hate towards them... ussually honda drivers dont like them, becouse they get owned by little glanzas :D

To be honest i was newer in to them, but when a friend gave me a spin in his 320hp glanza i felt in love... Crazyest thing i ever drove in.

If you in to cars and love modified stuff, then its a really nice car.

Dont be woried about steriotypes m8, i just gave up on it. I just drive and enjoy myself.

example: I ussually drove mine mx5 on high speed (reasonable) on particular road, no one ever gave a crap about me. When i drove on same road with mine skyline keeping with road limit, some woman with her little spawns was looking at me like i was a bigest scum of the world!

i got a lift in one one time ,driver was a young guy ,driving ridiculous ,and i felt very embarresd geting out of it

cant stand the look of them or the stupid psssst sound every time it changes gears .thats the dump valve correct?

why people think they sound good is beyond me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,581 ✭✭✭Testament1

I dont really have a problem with Glanzas. Two of my mates have them and they are very quick little cars. Dont think id ever own myself though because I dont think I could live with such a small car!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭Lurching

Never liked them. I just think they're fugly.

As with most powerful Toyotas, its a countdown timer till it eventually ends up in a ditch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,272 ✭✭✭✭Atomic Pineapple

There grand if you want to go fast in a straight line but if you fancy turning then forget about it :D

They can make great power but whats the point in putting that much power in a small hatchback with no racing pedigree at all, terrible handling, worse looks....etc...when you could spend the money on a proper car and get twice as much power for your money.

And on top of all that they've been ruined by the young boy racer crowd.

Personally, I don't think you'd find an uglier looking car too easy tbh. I'd rather drive a punto than touch a glanza with a 10 ft pole..

Ilove Modified/Performance cars and I also hate them! Tehy're awful things, very quick in a straight line. The one I was in was driven by a young guy, he gave it stink as soon as he turned the key, never let it warm up or anything. So I would guess its extremely difficult to find a clean one. They aint a car persons car, they're a young guys car who can't afford/insure anything more powerful.

    And they're butt ugly

I'm a Honda driver and I just gave you a review of the Glanza :P

Anyways, a Glanza pulled out in front of me on a roundabout Friday last, he gave it a little bit of socks, so I got up behind him. Then....turbo engaged and he went that little bit quicker and then *POP* followed by a flood of smoke....his turbo blew :P

I just drove on, and only the other day I found out he hadn't let the car warm up, so he blew a cold turbo :D

    I call shenanigans.

They are not a bad little car - powerful engine + small. light car = fun.

As Colm mcm says, they are brutal in corners unless you fit front and rear strut braces, uprate the suspension and fit very good tires.
The reason they have such a bad rep is down to the fact that a lot of scummers thought they were nice too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

The problem I see with Glanzas, is that nearly everyone I see in them is a young scobe, with a half grown moustache, or with their stereo up full with the windows down, and a very very noisy exhaust. It's all about show, and tackiness too.

And the problem is that this demographic makes up the majority of Glanza drivers - they're in your face, flat out, annoying - and ruining it for the minority of normal car enthusiast Glanza drivers.

" i call shenanigans" what does that mean? Sorry i am not that good with exprestions.

If that means, that i am full of ****, then hmmm.. i am not...

that glanza has an E5 from Cynos 1.5, fully forget engine, twice bigger turbo then i have in skyline, roll cage, Huge brakes and ather bits... Alot of lads that are in "proper" forums know this glanza...

Like i said: " you cant change poeple opinion about performance cars ". They will see one maggot doing shiz in glanza, they will brush all glanza drivers with same color...

Glanza is really good car for modifieng, and if you are smart, then you first sort out your handling...

Meaning what? Midnight Club or another one of those absolute joke forums? I find Boards great but the only better one for motoring is Octane, and I seriously doubt they'd praise it over there...

But back on topic...whats the story with the pricing on Glanza's? 4-5k for 97's and 98's?! WTF!

I dunno now. There are Glanzas out there that have some serious engine work done to them that are putting out big power. Theres a video on youtube of a Glanza in Cork racing an EG Civic with an Integra Type R engine in it and the Civic might aswel have stopped up in the middle of the road the Glanza went out past it with such ease. (PS this doesnt mean that every Glanza or Civic driver goes around racing everyone, its just an example!)

Was that 'Cork Glanza' by any chance seeing as you're from Cork also?
If so, that car has proven how quick it is on the drag strip.

Only know of 1 or 2 others that are 320+ in ireland and they are well known

Just for the record that eg had a standard sir-g engine not a typeR engine ;)

Personally i like glanzas but have never owned one. They're great bang for buck but the BOV can be droning(and that was just on a test drive) I wonder how many people commenting badly on them have actually owned one? Surely not basing their opinion on hear'say or things they've read on "joke forums"

Never owned one but have been a passanger in two different ones. I really can't see how they're great bang for buck, some of the cleaner ones are looking for 5k, I paid less than that for a 98 DC2 with full service history

By any chance is it a light blue? I seen one racing an Altezza and an IS200 on the M1 last year. He left them both for dust. If anyone is wondering how they did this, 1 in the hard shoulder, 2 in the lanes. If the Altezza hit anything in that hard shoulder he'd have been fúcked. I don't get why people do that sort of ****. Before the high horses come in yes I reported them but nothing was done about it. Same as with my other 4 calls to the traffic watch.

i cant insult you... i newer said boards are bad forum, i ment proper forum for sports cars, like DTDIRL maybe?

I can bet you are just pissed of as glanza ran away with your GF ;)

And yeah, that is the cork glanza. 100% animal. Moust festest thing i sat in.

he actually destroyed eg civic with k20 240hp, then s14a with 320hp recently.

Just lads dont mention the names ;)

The ones for 5k are usually fools who think they're pushing out 180bhp with just breathing mods. I think 130bhp out of a 1.3 hatch for 3k(max id pay) is pretty good value.

God, that Glanza through the tunnel video racing the type R made the evening echo. I felt sorry for one of the drivers - I know him offline, and he really got a lot of heat for it.

If you think 3k for a 130bhp boxy pile of ugly is good value, you must be on crack or something. You'd get a r33 GTST for close to that money, pushing closer to 300bhp... sure there's r33 N/A's for 1.5k upwards. Better looking car all round, more power, rwd, just a better car over all. And you don't get classed as a scobe for driving it either.

Wouldn't even pay 400 for one. Someone would have to pay me to drive one. A lot.

dont know why but i prefer the boxy turbos like th 88 model havent seen many in ireland just the standard ones theres just somthing about it hopefully the scumbags havent got there hands on them yet its the same with 316i they get **** mods and driven like mad round housing estates giving people who actully look after there car a bad name

My mate had a civic type r and swaped it for a 183bph proven Glanza, then he put a bit more work into it 'td04 turbo and that and its standing at over 200bph and thats not from martin traceys. His is spotless and well kept so it doesnt look like a skanger me banger car, they have plenty of potential thats insured as a turbo now were abit older but for the insurence thing i dont mind it we have all done it at one stage, well that doesnt stand for the people who drove there mothers car or a micra. But they shouldnt be even dipping there nose's in it.
