i have been watching the M1 series on bravo and have been wondering why we dont have a team entered?

Just to see what people think, who'd be on your ireland team and what coaches would you choose and why?

    LW, WW, MW, LHW, HW

A thread for fun and discussion....

for coaches, would you try to get a team together for next year?
(not trying to put anyone on the spot ere lol just get you thinking!)

From the local shows i have seen i think we could do well.... :D

Our problem is the LHW and HW divisions. Not alot of active pros in these divisions.

true enough ireland seams to be at it best in the lighter weights.

we could always get some big slugger and send him in at heavy weight :D
a lot of the bigger guys in it seam to be either striking or grappling based

Is there really enough Ireland based talent for that? I think the Irish MMA fighters have a better chance of making the World team before and actual Team Ireland

LW, WW and MW there is deffo some very good talent in the country but like i said its the two bigger divisions is our problem at the minute. I think this could change soon tho as there are quite a few good C-Class HW guys about.

In an ideal world id pick:

    LW: Norman Parke
    WW: Emmet McNally
    MW: Rodney Moore
    LHW: Marius Lapenas
    HW: Colin Robinson

Of course this would mean both Colin and Rodney coming out of retirement. If not then id sub them with either Colin McKee or Lee McKibben @MW and Poitr @ HW. Altho Poitr hasnt fought MMA yet i hear hes very good.

Ireland would have a very good LW selection. Most competitive division in the country.

We also have two fighters in the UK top 10 at Bantamweight

hmppfh.. less slating of the light heavy weights.. names that ring a bell from a few years ago are Mark Leonard, Dave Kelly, Ritchie Moore, Keith Bradley, Mark O'Toole.. I'm sure Karl Roche could make the cut Its one of those tricky divisions, amd lil old me. It seems the trend is the really big guys go to heavyweight, and the slightly smaller guys try to cut to middle or welter. From memory Stevie Lynch (Correct me if im wrong Ursula!) started fighting at light heavy. Or i fought him at middle. lol i cant remember. getting old lol. There are loads of guys who are very good fighters who COULD fight at light heavy, but opt for the cut to middleweight. Like you said though, most of us are over the hill!

Your memory serves you right Stevie started LHW;) Smart move by the Mr P who had him gradually move down to MW and then to WW. Once at WW Stevie was more comfortable and good size to carry massive strength. Im really interested in seeing Liam do the same as it can be done but Liam is goin a be an ox at WW:D

Wondered the same thing myself OP, Why no Irish fighters. Even if no irish team there was a few world teams made up of smaller countries last year if memory serves.

Enjoyed the shows I saw and indeed some of the guys I saw fight in the 1st two seasons have been on bigger international cards since.

My only gripe with the M1 challenge was the coverage ...... "We join this fight in the 2nd round"

Oh if anyone knows what the song they use at the start is let me know.
