Hi there, Im moving to Maynooth this week and will be attending the college in September. I would like to know if anyone is a member in any local leisure centres. I go swimming everyday and would like to continue if it was possible in a nice pool. Any reccomendations would be appreciated

Hey, I was a member of the Glen Royal for 3 months just there (not renewing it because I'm moving abroad) and I'd definitely say look into joining there. Especially if you're a serious swimmer - the college pool won't do. It's too warm, too small and too crowded. The gym and the classes in the Glen Royal are great too.

Once you have your student card in September you can join with the student discount fees.

I don't think they do because it'd be too easy to get into the gym. Do you use gyms at all? It's a really good one, particularly in the mornings before lectures when it's nice and quiet.

I'm a member of the college gym in Maynooth. Tbh, it is great. It has all or most of the machines you want. Glenroyal has the equipment but it also has a big price tag. I enquired about joining swimming pool only, about two years ago. They said it was a no go. Bit of a shame!!! I'd love to have a decent swimming pool to train for triathlons. Anyone know is the pool in Naas any good?

I know the pool in Naas takes in primary schools from the area a few times a week so you'd have to time it to make sure you were surrounded by brats!

If you're serious about your swimming join the swimming club.

Theyve got an excellent coach and support team and they do sessions in the NAC every morning, Im not sure what the story is with the NAC sessions - i.e. if theyre invite only or what, but I can gaurentee if youre serious about swimming theyll welcome you with open arms!
