In the 80's Rakim, 90's Biggie/Jay-Z, 00's Eminem. Going by these trend we should have a new legend on the sidelines.

    Will it happen?

Drake. Did you not get the memo?

the hip hop world is too over saturated with overnight stars and 'singles' rappers. It's too easy for anyone to make a beat and write a rhyme and be able to distribute it on t'internet.

So the idea of a saviour is long gone because they are in the mixer with far too many others.

Look to XXL's recent freshman list for possibilities, but i doubt most of them will be around in a few years time.

Somebody will emerge and bring a bit of life/attention back into the more mainstream side of hiphop, like Jay-Z and Eminem did, but I think, like the '00's, a lot of great releases will slip under the radar of most people, and those are the people who will look for a "savior" of the genre

J cole will be the next big thing.
Can't stop listening to his mixtape
any1 that doesn't have it should get it straight away. It's called 'the warm up'

    it's me lol jk...

i dnt think it would be drake... he's more rnb.. we'll find out in the summer that's when the new boys come out...

Then again maybe it would be the old boys who saves it... Jay-z and em aren't gone yet..

Hey people, MC Yo' Momma is going to be the new saviour of rap in this decade, with his phat beats and lyrics created on Rhyme Creator Version 1.3.
Yo bitches, this rap is part of tha educational series for all the brovas up there, and it’s called
    DON’T BE A GANGSTER.

Don’t be a gangster, cos gangsters are bad.
If you wanna be a gangster, you are just sad.
You will end up in a massive jail,
And in future life you will miserably fail.

Yo, it’s MC Your Momma in da game,
teaching that being a ad boy is totally lame.
Imma laying down rhymes into yo’ head,
Like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent and MC Judge Dredd.
Cos you rap is the only thing that you dig,
You buy those records and feed the capitalist pigs.

It’s MC Your Momma sitting on a tree,
    R-A-P-P-I-N-G,
    Using Rhyme Creator Version 1.3,
The best Rapping software in the history.
This is the reason why I rhyme,
While all the other rappers struggle and cry.

When you are a gangsta, you aint got no lives,
One bullet is enough to make you die.
Cos the US army invented an invisible gun,
That can get your butt down while you’re on the run.

When you’re in jail, you won’t get laid,
Never get food and never get paid.
Instead of a shower, you’ll be powerhosed,
To clean your body off drugs from ho’s

When you are in jail, life aint sweet.
Any day, you will end up as dead meat.
    A burger, a sausage, a ham or a steak,
You will end up in a sanwich in some kid’s lunch break.

Pimping is bad, so is prostitution.
This is drafted in tha EU constitution.
Women have equal status as men,
This is tha law since 1910.

When you’re a gangster, you won’t dodge the law,
there are cameras on every friggin’ door.
Even in the wild the animals are watching,
They can squeal really loud when a gangsta is approaching.

Don’t tag your name out on the wall,
Cos the local authorities won’t be pleased at all.
They don’t find your spraying a work of art,
They will tear your territory apart.

Get an education, motherf!_!cker, you heard me.
    A college, a school or a trade.
You will be moulded into a citizen of a higher grade.
You will be another cog in tha machine of the civilisation,
A much needed element in a fight against future alien invasion.

Here is a column from a newspaper page,
Advertising sh1tty job for a minimum wage.
With your criminal record, you don’t deserve anything better.
Go bust your ass writing a CV and cover letter.

When you will get that job,
You will spend your spare time
Eating KFC and watching daytime TV.
Oprah Winfrey, Ricky Lake and Jeremy Kyle,
This sh1t is so depressing you wont wear a smile.
This is what the Man really likes to see,
    You being stuck in misery.

When you’ll get that far, you won’t mess with tha law,
Cos you’ll know that their powah is raw.
Sadly, we’re running out of time,
So I must deliver my final line.

Don't be a gangster, cos gangsters are bad.
If you wanna be a gangster, you are just sad.
If you don’t get what I’m saying, you’re a tool,
Too dumb to pass a nursery school.
Go wear a paper bag on your head,
So nobody would know you’re so brain dead.

    Peace out, bro's.

Jesus H Christ, even the Black Eyed Peas or Outkast wouldnt get that cheesey (well, maybe Outkast).

tbh it seems to be the case that lyrically brilliant hip hop doesnt sell anymore. I doubt if 36 Chambers or Illmatic were released today they would make many sales.

Lyrical hip hop will come into fashion again. It'll just take 10 years or so. Things go in cycles. Until then there'll be excellent rappers but they won't be in the charts. Just electro/dance/rnb stuff.

Outkast cheesy? Maybe on parts of The Love Below but that's hardly representative of their catalogue.

How? They were getting rave reviews the last time they dropped some cheese. Their newer stuff is an embarassment.

Why did Pac have to die? If he wasn't killed, he would still be making records today. Look at Jay-Z, Nas, Cypress Hill. They all are.

At least we got to hear many albums from Pac but only 2 from Biggie, Big L and Big Pun. Imagine all 4 still alive:(

Yeah. I've no interest in what he's releasing currently, find myself avoiding his older work. But that's just personal opinion.

I don't think his irrelevence is dependent upon your personal opinion though Ciaran. I mean I wish it was but still...:pac:

Irrelevant to me, lad, to meee. He's like sports car that was the talk of the forecourts but became dated rather quickly. Plenty still listen to him but I've no interest any more.

Not another hip hop is dead topic.

If you only listen to rappers who hit their artistic peak 10 years ago, or are dead of course you're going to feel like things are going backwards.

There's loads of class new stuff out at the moment. You're not seeing it set the charts alight but that shouldn't be the yardstick for measuring everything. The music industry is pretty cut throat at the moment because of piracy so you have to search out independent music, it's not going to come to you.

Rap is all over the UK chart these days and a lot of it's pretty good. There's a compromise of course but that's business. Threatening to shoot people and smoke weed used to be controversial in the 90's so you could get to the top spot on the backs of kids who wanted to offend their parents. We have the internet now which is full of all sorts of iffy stuff so what some heads like to think is hardcore rap content isn't going to catch the publics attention the way it did in the past.

Hip hop is a mature genre. That means you're going to hear more about the oldschool heads than the new heads. It's the same in rock music. All the most profitable touring acts are from the 80's or older. You won't see any bands from the last decade in the top 10. Yawn.

Hip Hop has gone mad at the moment....
so little of it interests me anymore which is very sad...

But seen as i'm promoting exceptional lyricism from Ireland, im pointing you this way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl2obLvqUaM
    Listen to the meaning.
