    Hi guys,
Im hoping to travel the west coast of South America for 5 weeks or so before going on to Oz. As Im travelling alone I want to do a tour. Have people recommendations for companies or ones to avoid?
I was in Trailfinders and they were talking about Gap Adventures but Ive read some bad reviews about them and am wondering about people's experiences (both good and bad) with tour companies

    Thanks in advance

I dont have an answer to your question but I would say go it alone. You will meet people in your first hostel or on buses, who you can travel with for that time. There are many solo travelers (including solo female), traveling South America. It will give you the freedom and time to do what you want when you want. Dont worry about safety either. Before I went to SA I thought I was going to be kidnapped, mugged or robbed. None of these of course happened. Take the usual precautions and you'll be fine, i.e. dont go down dark alleys at night, camera around your next, wallet in your back pocket. Always get taxis from bus stations to your hostel. They are cheap.

If you still want a tour company try: Kumuka, Toucan, Gap, Dragoman. I looked into all these before I left and decided against it. You could be stuck with ass h***s for 5 weeks. It could ruin your trip. Enjoy whatever you pick as South America is easily the best place to travel imo.

I'm with darrenh, go it alone. I did it as a 21 year old female, never felt unsafe.

If you want to go with a tour then they're all pretty much the same. The good/bad reviews depend completely on the tour guide, and every company has good and bad ones so it's pot luck really.

I agree with the go it alone advice...However Oasis Overland are apparently one of the cheapest Overland companies at the moment.
