    Hi all,

I have a dish with multiple outputs one of which is going to a tv with a built in receiver where I receiver free sat and that works great. The other goes to a commtel box I just got in power city. This box sees about 30 satellites but no where is 'freesat' mentioned. The big problem is when I try to do a scan on random satellites (I started with 'astra') there is a hell of a lot of duplication (some channels 6 times) and a lot of channels that I want like BBC3&4 are not there at all.

can anyone tell me how I can get freesat on this box?

    many thanks

If is not got freesat logo on the box you wont get freesat.

you will however be able to receive all the channels ,albeit without the 7 day epg. (electronic program guide)

you could reset the box and do a rescan of astra 2d . all the channels should be there including the bbc's .

so freesat is a standard? and boxes have to display that standard in order for the EPG to work? total bummer if so. thanks very much RE astra 2d. what can I do about the duplication

Not totally sure. as i am not familiar with that box.

Can you delete the duplicates ? and re order the channels. ? so you have them in the order you want.

I have done this on the mvision 200 box

You should get BBC3 and 4 on any (DVB-S) digital sat tuner. Bear in mind they don't broadcast before 7pm.

Go onto Lyngsat and look up the freqs, symbol rate etc. and enter them into the "manual tuner/ add channels mode" in your satellite tuner. :)

Freesat is just an EPG, only Freesat compatible boxes show the Freesat 7 day EPG in the same way that only a Sky box shows the Sky EPG.

However... since all channels on Freesat are FTA (free to air, unencrypted), then any FTA box, once alligned correctly, will receive those channels, but they only have a now and next epg.

Are you sure the dish is setup correctly? If so, are you getting BBC1 and so on? If not and you are getting German channels, you need to swing the dish ever so slightly to the left (if you are standing behind it). If you are getting BBC1, then you will indeed get multiple versions of it as it is regionalised in the UK (there are versions of BBC 1 and 2 for many regions of the UK). Actually you will get many ITV 1's, and C4's also.

As stated above, BBC3 & 4 do not start till 19:00. You may see them appear as CBBC and CBeebies instead. If so, just rename them.

One of the nice things about a FTA box is that you can order the channels as you like and delete channels you will never watch. You can also, using a motor or multiple lnbs, watch other satellites.

    Anyway, I hope that helps.

Sorry, instead of "Freesat compatible boxes", I should have said "Freesat branded equipment" as there are now many TVs with Freesat built in.
