If it's free view on your tv it means it is capable of receiving digital tv by an aerial. Not a dish. Free to air uses the sat dish.

You need to check if your tv is mpeg4 compatible. If it is you can pick up RTE using a digital aerial. For the English free to air channels you will need a satelite receiver!

You're not the first person to be confused on the Issue and you won't be the last.

Freeview is an English Digital Terrestrial service which requires an aerial , I'm no expert on the matter but I believe It can only be received in certain area's within the Republic of Ireland along the east-coast and the boarder.

Freesat is an English Digital Satellite service which is available in Ireland albeit not officially available, Freesat dishes can't be used to get Freeview.

Soarview (I believe this is the correct name) is the Irish digital terrestrial service which requires an aerial to receive it, it's in a testing state and isn't officially launched (long story). The test service is widely available around the country. To the best of my knowledge there are no official receivers be it TV or under the TV boxes but if your TV has a mpeg4 compatible tuner you may be able to view RTE1, RTE2, RTE News Now, TG4 and 2 test card channels and a few radio channels on the RTENL test service.
