    Still recovering from THAT match....

So England v Australia it is....just!!;)

I reckon only one man stands between Australia and the World Cup.....he is a South African!

Just hoping the final won't be a let down given that we have already had our classic for this world cup

Surely Australia's greater experience in finals will mean they start as firm favourites....its a mouth watering final...lets hope it lives up to its billing:o

There are a few around here who may think a certain Irishman may have a say in this also!

In fact, pretty much any of the batsmen could hit it off on the day (and equally any of them could be out to a first ball duck) - Hussey proved this toiday. I think the biggest influence may be the combined bowling efforts of each team, and England have been strong throughout the competition in this area

Michael Clarke and Paul Collingwood both have a chance of lifting the T20 world cup on Sunday despite being the worst players in both their respective teams;)

Atleast Colly has some pedigree in T20 but Clarke....would he even be in the 15 if he was not the captain....he probably wont make the Bangladesh team on his T20 record!

The Saffas are the main reason England are where they are. The Irishman also chipped in. Bet they don't sing' god save the queen'.

The Saffas are the main reason England are where they are. The Irishman also chipped in.

They contributed along with eveyone else in the team. Morgan was the most important batsmen (he scored the runs when it mattered most - whenever Pietersen didn't perform Morgan did) and the all-round bowling performance was critical (not that I am knocking the the performances of anyone, wherever they were born).

Not commenting on Clarke as I don't really follow Aussie cricket closely, but to suggest Collingwood is the worst player in the England team is ridiculous - if you look at his performances in all forms of the (international) game over the past couple of years, he has probably been the most consistent player

Jeez.....Take a chill pill will ya....I meant at this world cup.....:(

    Colly....6 , 0 , 16 , 14 , 3 , 10.....so far in the 6 matches.....fair to say that the other batters in the team are carrying him....

Didn't bother looking at Clarke's scores...am pretty sure they are much worse!!

Colly wins toss and puts Australia in.....

160+ would be a great score to defend

You would think Australia of all teams would know how to play a final!!....they seem as clueless as India were at playing the short ball!!

Michael Clarke is playing a blinder...for England that is with his running!!;)....time for him to prove his worth!!

As far as I am aware only 2 of their current team have played in any form of World Cup Final, and this is the first time Australia have been in the World T20 Final. They are actually a relatively inexperienced team, and a number of the England players have been involved in the high pressure of a winning Ashes series. This is part of the reason I fancied England to win this tournament once they qualified for the SFs

    Now 45-4 after 9.2:D

Would be a bit of a sickener if England won, considering Ireland would've beaten them had the rain not intervened.

Better over from the Aussies here though. About time Yardy was attacked, he was never an international class bowler in my view. Thought England had stopped selecting "bits 'n pieces" players.

It was hardly a sure thing that we would have beaten them to be fair.

I do think England have played this tournament very well. Sticking to their 5 bowlers is paying big dividends

    :confused::confused:

Ireland were 106 short when rain intervened!

128-5 with 2 overs to go - they could still get to 160, but I suspect it will be nearer 150

148 TO WIN.....This is England's best chance to win a world event.....C'MON ENGLAND

KP in at 7 for 1...As Chapelli said..."this is the title here and now"

Was being somewhat facetious....but then again they would've had a fair chance of chasing the runs.

Impressive batting here from England (South Africa :p) it must be said.

    Gonna win this quite convincingly.

Walk in the park (so far!). If they continue like this there can be absolutely no argument - they are the best team, both batting and bowling, in the tournament, and there are not many that could match them in the field

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

KP gone. A sting in the tail? ....

    ... I don't think so:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

Like they looked against the Pakistanis the Aussies look clueless when their bowling gets belted around the park.....too rigid in their tactics....No plan B

Clarke has no right to be in the Aussie team let alone be its captain....

Hope Colly stays to see England home....deserves to by the way he has lead the team....not by the way he has batted;)

    Kieswetter gone as well.

Would take an awful collapse to lose it from here though.

    :D:D:D:D:D:D

Fantastic all-round performance by England to win their first "World" trophy

Hats off to England. Gotta say that the best team in the tournament won it in the end. WP.

2 SAFFAS win 20-20 cup for England.

Bit of a chip on your shoulder there boksmashoffice:p

It's actually the bowlers that got them in the right position today, and as I have said previously everyone has contributed to this success

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

So Paul Collingwood can take his place alongside Bobby Moore and Martin Johnson, and Andy Flower is on a par with Alf Ramsey and Clive Woodward.

    Now who's being facetious?:D

Well done England, definitely the best team in the tournament.

I don't buy the argument that the South Africans/Morgan won that for England. Yes they scored a lot of runs, but England were consistently chasing reasonably low totals due to their excellent (all English) bowling attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Thats true, they managed to restrict teams well. I wouldn't say its the most formidable bowling line-up, Swann and perhaps Broad aside they're almost more containing bowlers, but they were effective.

Disappointing final.....was always going to be after THAT semifinal...

Australia were too one dimensional....England were far better today....WELL DONE ENGLAND.....

Will they go back home to a ticker tape parade thro the streets of London??;)

Congrats to the Saffers & the Micks (plus the odd Yorkshireman)! ;)

To be clear, we are not all odd:p

There were as many players in the squad born in Yorkshire as there were born in SA, and one of the South Africans was only born there because his (Yorkshire-born) dad was in SA at the time teaching the locals how to play cricket!

In The end the best team won. The scary thing is tehy will get stronger and stronger. kieswetter has given england the Power they were looking for at the top. This guy will be up there with Gilchrist (it pains me to say as a proud South African). This guy ahould have taken over from Boucher. Life goes on.

Sure by the time they get home the next world T20 will be starting up anyway.

I humbly beg to differ m'lud....;). Massively impressed with England really assured and intelligent cricket. Totally unexpected performances for me. Bodes well for the ashes as the last thing we need is a repeat of '07.

The next T20 world cup for those who don't know will be in SriLanka in 2012

I'm guessing you're from the West, whereas I'm from the North (Riding) - we're a bit more "normal" up there;)

Well done England, deserved winners. Australia looked so weak, Clarke didn't seem to have much of a clue what to do. Wonder if Ponting would've made a difference.

Worked all day yesterday so missed the game, expecting Sky to have it repeated at least once, feckin isn't, so I will have to watch the highlight thing on sky tonight.

Absolutely fantastic result, and to win with 3 overs left is brilliant. Clarke may not be the best captain the Aussies have but he was very gracious in defeat.

The crowds for this tournament were much better than the 50 over finals they had in the West Indies, the locals seem to support it more, even when the Windies were out. There was even a good crowd stayed on for the women's game, shame they didn't bring the boundary rope in for that one.
