We are due to fly to Boston for a week on Sunday. We are flying BA from Shannon (Aer Lingus codeshare flight gets us to Heathrow) Our flight out is okay but our flight back was cancelled. Total nightmare.

Originally Expedia with whom we had booked told us we wouldnt be able to get another flight home for three weeks (seriously!) After being put on hold for ages we got that last few seats to Heathrow on the next day's flight.

Now There are two problems for us. We will have to stay an extra night in Boston and we will also have to now stay a night in Heathrow as they cant get us back to Shannon until the morning after we arrive in London.
Im very confused about our entitlements. Will BA pay for our hotel and food both those nights? They are a little vague on the phone. They say it shouldnt be a problem really and to put it all on a credit card and claim a refund. This is a little scary to me! I dont have a whole load of spare cash and Im so scared that for some reason I wont get it back! Did anyone have any similar experience with the earlier strike action or volcanic ash situation??

Between the potential of the ashcloud rearing its head again and now the strikes I really dont know if its worth the stress to go on a foreign holiday at the moment!

Do you have travel insurance? If so, check with them if they will cover you in the case of strike action. Many do once you had booked before the strike was known about. Then you won't have to worry about getting cash out of BA.

No sadly! Mine expired 2 months ago. Although interestingly, I dont think my insurance would have covered strike action anyway.

BA have a commercial policy in operation for the strike which means they will rebook you on an available flight should yours be cancelled.

The available flight might be on another airline.Afaik they can even put you on Aerlingus/jetblue or something like that back to dublin/Snn
This means that if the strike is settled [and it may be as other unions like the pilots one Balpa] are kicking up a fuss saying theres no need for a strike.
Also the new British government appear to be intervening.

Watch the space carefully as you may be back on your original flights if you want to be.

BA.com is the place to look.
Get your pnr from expedia and you can actually change the flights yourself!
