    Hi,

I have oil coming from the hose connected to the cam cover, it is then flowing down into all the pipes. no smoke problems or turbo problems at all, with 80k on the clock.

I have attached a photo of where the oil is. I have cleaned it out but I am thinking that there is a filter or gauze missing from the round stub on the rocker cover where the pipe connects to because there is nothing in this when i open it and i think there should be to regulate the flow??

    any ideas?!

Thats the engine breather outlet where you have the yellow arrow...its common that a certain amount of oil is present in these pipes due to
oil mist from the engine.....The focus turbo intake is alittle different to
the peugeot 1.6 hdi setup but the share they same engine.

so the round stubby thing is the engine breather outlet, should there be something in here to regulate the oil?! sorry i'm not technically up on the terms!
my uncle is my mechanic and he cleaned it all about two weeks ago- i had a 1000 miles put up, he took a look again yesterday and it was pretty bad again, like so much oil that it is dripping down the engine! should there be that much mist out of it?

I had to leave my 1.6TDCi in for some repairs over the new year. I thought it was a turbo issue as there was a loud whining under accelration. Turns out the bearings in the altenator had gone.

While they were looking at the turbo and around that area they noticed a simple cable tie had come loose where your yellow arrow is pointing. It was loose enough not to be airtight so I was losing some compression on the turbo and it was spitting some oil out around that area. It looked like they either tightened or put a new cable tie on and it was as good as new. There's alot of vibration in there and I'm guessing the cable ties can come loose.

Thats just my personal experience but it might give you some insight into your own problem with that part of the engine bay/engine.

This could solve my problem because when my uncle took the pipe away- it had been a new pipe that someone had replaced before i bought the car- he found that it had been kept in there with sealer, so obvioulsy someone else had tried to recify it at some stage.

I'll let him know this and see if we can eliminate it!

    Thanks!

Don't think this engine breather outlet is regulated.
Also not sure if theres a seal (O-ring) in there like peugeot use..see pic.
As you can see even with this O-ring it leaks a certain amount of oil.
I know on some of the mazdas using this engine the turbo intake pipe can crack and take in air which can give the maf sensor false readings.

Heres the setup on the 407 1.6 hdi engine.....

That oil pipe is a breather from the rocker cover to the air intake. What happends with the Fords is that the two lugs which attach that pipe to the rocker cover get damaged when these pipes are removed for oil changes. The oil filter is buried beneath that pipe and this is why the air intake pipework needs to be removed to get the filter out. It is this regular removing of the pipes that leads to the lugs breaking off the hose, leading to it becoming loose and dripping oil mist all over the place.

In some cases, this can cause engine management problems (false EGR fault codes) as the engine will run on air drawn in through the pipe rather than through the MAF, and therefore the rate of EGR flow will be higher than expected, leading to the ECU thinking that the EGR is stuck open or not performing properly.

thanks for that shamwari, i will get him to have a look but i am sure he said nothing was broken as when i bought the car whoever had looked at it then had put loads of sealer where the pipe connected on!

he plugged it in too and no error codes came up!

i will say this to him though!

its gas, rang two main dealers and they said they never heard of the problem!
