I'll press pause, play or another button and the box thinks I pressed 5, resulting in "Channel not available" and going back to the info channel.
The above problem is constantly causing me to lose paused programmes I am watching as it'll go to the info channel.

this has to do with interference try putting some tape over the ir recivier

When I press right on the remote to view the channels it goes left.

this one i have never heard before

Out of sync a lot of the times after fast forwarding through the ads. Takes me a few minutes of rewinding/forwarding to get the picture and sound back in sync.

this makes me think the box is on its way out i would ring upc and get a replacement

    Thanks,[/QUOTE]

my thompson (the black one) box keeps freezing if left on standby for any period of time. I go to turn it on from the remote and nothing happens. the onlyway to get it working is to turn it off at the plug and turn it back on. Its beginning to piss me off at this stage.... its not the worst of problems but I at least want non-faulty equipment when paying them my hard earned money!!

    anyone else have this problem?

The general thinking from what I have read is to turn off any power saving on your tv and if still acting crazy try put some masking tape over the IR reciever on the box

Happens frequently to me as well. I didn't know about the tape thing other people mentioned, might try that. The remote is shíte anyway so it might be that - the standby and "UPC" button doesn't work on ours any more (have to use the Guide button to turn it on and the standby button on the front panel ).
The above problem is constantly causing me to lose paused programmes I am watching as it'll go to the info channel.
Doesn't happen to me too much when I'm doing that, but if it's something important I want to watch I record it well out of paranoia.

Same here, I find combinations of pause and slow rwd/ff help. I think some channels are worse than others.
Considering moving to Sky at this stage.
Or you can upgrade to the HD box for the same price. It's made by Cisco as opposed to Thomson and is supposed to me much less broken according to other people here - I'll report back on this as we're getting ours tomorrow, and it seems to be a self-install so they're not charging the €40 installation fee. It doesn't matter if you don't have an HDTV, it has a SCART output for SD as well.

Is it coming in the post? thinking of getting HD too but would like to avoid the connection fee of €40 if its possible.

It sounds like they will deliver it themselves and collect the old box at the same time. It's possible that they don't do this everywhere.

Funny sounds out of our upc box, sounds a bit like a mini air raid.. Thinking of changing to a hd box, anyone got the width demenions of upc hd box? Thanks

hi there Captain. I am having the same probs as you , basicly the remote is not doin what i prompt it to do , no matter whether i'm watching tv or a recording. . Did u get urself sorted out . I tried my box in another room with a different tv and it was ok . Have had upc guys here, there are similar probs around . Sometimes it is where the box is situated or if have tinted glass door on ur tv cabinet. For the moment they have just moved the box away form the tv ...about 3 ft on the ground and just to see how things go

Have you tried putting masking tape over the remote sensor on the box? As others have said it may be caused by stray infrared emissions from LCD TVs, I guess the other TV you tried wasn't LCD?
