It would seem to be a great idea to dodge speed traps. It's just a pity it cannot tie into Google navigation. I started using it myself but I guess there aren't that many speed traps these days what with the cutbacks in public spending.

How does it work? I was thinking a good app would be one where you just have an icon on the home page and if you pass an active area, you just press the icon and it then connects to the server with a "location recorded" message pop up and then goes back to the home screen. The location would then be recorded and would expire after 4 hours or so, after the last update of it, so say if somebody using android is approaching an area someone else reported 3 hours ago, and there was still activity in the area, they just push their icon too and the location lasts another 4 hours or so (locations could be combined if they are in a certain distance of eachother) or there could be a pop up saying "still active: yes / no". It would make it easy for people to update it and would mean every record on it would be 4 hours or less old.

Does this app work in any way like that? :)

Yes it works like that except its showing the maps instead of the screen.

What do you mean when you say it's showing the maps instead of the screen? Does it function exactly the way I described above with the expiration/updating/proximity etc? If so that's pretty cool :)

you know, there's a neat little trick that allows you to avoid getting caught in these speed traps.

It's pretty simple. You just place your android phone on the dashboard (or in the car dock, if you have one) and then, as you're driving, note the speed limit on the road signs and attempt to keep your speed below said limit.

I know that. And I dont speed and have TAX, Insurance & NCT but I still use it.
Trapster does not only warn you about police but also for road conditions etc.

Or we could make it even simpler by insisting that cars cannot be sold with engines that allow speeds in excess of 120km/h.

    That'd be just gay.
I can drive my car at any speed I like on private land & other European countries have higher speed limits so what if I wanna drive there?

The Nissan GTR in Japan had built in GPS and if your on a public toad it limits you to 180 km/h which all cars are limited to in Japan, that's fair enough.

I must check out this trapster app when I get a car cradle.
