As I read through your post a thought passed through my mind.........
and then I read your last line!!!

Really? There's a couple of good forwards on that bench (Darran and David Moran).

More senior AI medals than the whole of the Cork team........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,798 ✭✭✭Mr. Incognito

Thought Moran was out with a hand injury?

Going to struggle in Midfield me thinks. Quirke is not mobile and it's a weak bench.

Could see Donaghy being moved out to midfield and another forward brought on for Quirke.

Kerry should win but it won't be a blowout. Tipp are a solid team.

It shows that the transition is starting now. I would prefer to see Darren instead of Bryan Sheehan myself. Should be interesting.

kerry will win this by 10-15 points

As a result of being part of the Kerry SQUAD yes.... but seriously,, how many of them would get on the Cork team? Some of them would struggle to make the bench for Cork;)

I thought Mr Incognito was one of ours??? It's a valid observation in my opinion, I don't see the club games that some people might use to back up their views, but in my opinion, from championship games I've seen him play, he will not be effective for the better challenges.

The mark, if introduced, would have been a massive boost to his game as his fielding is exceptional, but that its not, takes away any advantage to the fellas play.

    Still beating that old drum

    Of Course.

Quirke has always been an impact sub.

He's a target man in midfield but has always been introduced in the second half when people are tired and Kerry are defending a lead and the opposing teams half backs are less likely to bomb forward.

Tipp are a young quick team. If the goal keeper kicks short to bunched half backs and they run it through midfield then Quirke is effectively taken out of the game.

Kerry will not win this by 10-15 mark my words, The O Shea's have only come into the squad recently, Marc is just back from injury as is Gooch. Kerry are lucky we don't have Limerick in the first round as they are a far more physical team than Tipp and I'd be afraid of injuries.

It will be an open, entertaining quick game of football. Kerry by 4 or so I think.

Kinda shocked by the subs bench mainly Niall O'Mahony.

    Was almost literally

Delighted for him on a personal level and he has been playing great stuff for Spa but would have never have suspected he would make a Kerry Championship team.

Would have thought that if anyone from Spa was on the bench it would have been Stam especially given he scored 2-9 for Spa against Glenflesk last week.

On Quirke - given Moran's injury (very surprised he is even able to make the panel) and the fact that Maher (who I'm a big fan of) has stagnated a bit there doesn't seem to be much in the way of alternative options.

In a sense Quirke is lucky in that a number of the other players around the midfield diamond are pretty mobile - Young, Walsh, Thomas, Paul and Declan are all hugely mobile players who cover a vast amount of ground normally.

Would have my concerns about Sheehan as well especially if the game turns into any sort of a battle. Lovely footballer when he has the ball but his inability to win any sort of dirty ball that he has to battle for is a key failing at this level in my opinion.

Can someone with a better footballing knowledge please tell me if tomas o se scores much from wing back? Ladbrokes have him at 11/8 not to score and 8/15 too score:eek: seems a bit odd considering hes a wing back!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Yeah, he scores maybe a point a game on average. Pretty good for a wing back. However most of these points come when Kerry are on the ropes and really need a score. Not saying today wont be one of those days, but you'd be relitivly safe betting against him scoring today i'd say. that and the fact that he's only jus back from injury, so the chances of him playing 70mins are slim.

Don't quote me on this if you lose money though :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,798 ✭✭✭Mr. Incognito

    Thomas always scores.

In 5 of the last 8 all ireland finals he has outscored the man he's marking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Kerry to win, but not by a huge margin, i dont think there'll be anymore than 4 or 5 points in it. Tipp's Kevin Mulryan at midfield will give Scanlon and Quirke plenty to think about. Barry Grogan at full forward is another danger man to watch out for. Interesting that they're playing Hugh Coghlan at half forward when he's much better suited to midfield. Kerry should have too much up front though, looking forward to seeing Donncha Walsh getting a proper run in the championship now that Tommy Walsh has departed the scene.

    Kerry 2-10 Tipp 0-12

Defo gonna be a tough game.

Disappointed moran isn't playing and quirke is.

Have major doubts over d walsh as a footballer

    Kerry by 3 points.

Kerry 1 up at half time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Tipp forwards look decent at times, the goal by Austin was class! Kerry haven't really got out of third gear yet, Scanlon was well on top at midfield in the first half and Tipp will have to look to get on top there if they've any hope of winning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Noticeable that when Tipp charge through the middle with Coghlan, Acheson or Austin, they can open up Kerry suprisingly easy, Mike Mac needs to shore things up back there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Comical defending from Tipp for the goal!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭tennessee time

would give the whole championship a lift if kerry got knocked out at quarter final stage

Comfortable enough win for Kerry in the end. Tip had absolutely no answer to the high ball into Donaghy.

    That's a bit petty isn't it?

I suppose you thought the refereeing was great today?

he admitted himself his source was wrong, the gaa rebutted him live on television ffs,

That's my point. He's just apologised live on National TV and you're on here five minutes later crowing about it.

    It's a bit childish like.

Can anyone tell me why Brolly is wearing a sling on his arm:confused:.Doesn't look to be that much of an injury if his flailing his bandaged arm in every direction when he makes a point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,379 ✭✭✭toiletduck

Said he injured it in a match recently.

    Wánkers cramp I'd say

Thought D.Walsh & Mike Mac were immense today, Maher did well when he came on - Barry John Keane did brilliant I think - took his second point very well imo

Overall not too bad - we were never made to move through the gears really and good to see Donahgy playing well for us, hopefully he'll play a big part in the championship for us this year he deserves it after some shít luck with injury

    From a Kerry perspective

    Positives
    • Variation in the Kerry attack attack and all 6 forwards scored from play
    • Possession - Most of the posession in 1st half and all the possession in the 2nd half
    • Donncha Walsh a close 2nd behind Donaghy in MOM
    • Brian Sheehan scoring 2-6
    • Donaghy/Gooch partnership back on song
    • Barry John & Reidy played well when coming on as subs

    Negatives
    • Tom O'Sullivan taken to the cleaners
    • Declan O'Sullivan taking too much out of the ball
    • Strange decision on the line taking off Galvin when the game was very much in the balance
    • Kerry goalkeeper Kealy not strong enough under high ball and kick outs were very poor

Overall plenty of positives and something to work on in the weeks ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

Less of this troll-calling please. If someone's messing around let us handle it, just report the post and move on.

    Donaghy is a destroyer.
I think kerry are actually stronger this year and its due to him being fit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭dartbhoy

In my view Kerry are favourites to win the All Ireland, they have plenty of talent in the county and today they won in a canter without breaking sweat against Tipp. This Kerry team will be hard to beat no matter what the so called experts tell us about them been on a downward spiral!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Kerry's strongest 15 is still exceptional. Donnacha Walsh's preformance doesn't suprise me - he caused Cork havoc in the league.

I'd agree with all this except the decision to pull Galvin off. He was doing his usual tireless running and even though the game was in the balance - Kerry hadn't even shifted out of 2nd gear yet. Overall I think resting him for Cork was a wise move.

Tbh I was suprised Colm Cooper wasn't taken off when we started to open up a gap, he was quiet enough in the 2nd half and would've been a good chance to rest him up for Lynch when we play Cork.

Barry John Keane was excellent when brought on also. Tipperary were far stronger the lopsided scoreline suggested. Tipp capitulated 15-20mins into the 2nd half and Kerry then ran riot. Kerry seem a stronger team this year and Micheal Quirke wrecked tipp at midfield. Kerry will win the All-Ireland and will defeat Cork easily on todays performance.

Kerry are playing vintage and will be back as AI favourites most likely tomorrow morning!

Another Championship game down and another complete absense of the ghost of Michéal Quirke's "immobility".

Another monster performance by him imo.

Great man to win a "throw ball" (one-handed) between two players also.

I think people are getting carried away a bit.
The Tipperary team that started had an average age of 23.
It's over 80 years since Tipp beat Kerry in the Championship.

Though Maher did well when he came on too aswell though, Didn't think Scanlon did much until he popped up for that point.

On another note, Kerrys footpassing was unbelievably accurate yesterday - especially going across field
