Up to 27,000 crimes a year committed while on bail

It has been revealed that 27,000 crimes a year are committed by people out on bail while charged with another offence.

The Dáil has also heard that the chief suspects in 15 murders over the past 20 months were out on bail.

Fine Gael has described it as a "scandal" 13 years after Fianna Fáil declared "zero-tolerance" on crime.

Is it time to reclaim our streets????????

Moved to AH. Maybe Politics would be a better forum for this, but I'll leave it up to the AH mods.

Maybe if he wasn't so busy trying to stop people from having fun he could focus his efforts on you know, actual criminals.

Can't we ship them off to Australia again?
    They'd fit in over there.

if there was any danger of the govt being held liable for it he'd do something fairly sharpish. Maybe he could declare crime blasphemous.

Dermot Ahern: because one dickhead called ahern was'nt enough for irish politics

Heard that comment from him today, it's the judges fault apparently.
Nice little shuffle from Ahern, he knows the judges won't comment in response.

Yes it is the judges that carry out the sentencing, however the introduction of mandatory sentencing and no parole on certain charges can be introduced by legislation.

People are put into prison for non payments of fines, while the rapists and murderers are out walking the streets.

So now we have a Minister For Justice who can't do anything because it's the judges fault.

A Minister For Health who can't do anything because it's the HSE fault.

A Minister fo Finance who can't do anything because it's the global downturns fault.

What the F**k are they doing !
