Not fool proof - but if you are asked the notice period in your current job then you should be in with a shout.

In my experience that's a pretty standard question

    When can you start?
    Asks about references.

I find after a good interview you feel like i am going to get this job, and that feeling slowly evaporates as the days pass + you hear nothing.

Did you send an email to say thanks for interview?

thank you emails and flowers and kissy kissy sweet talk are bs. If they want you they hire you, any extra-curricular crap wont influence them.

any job i had was not got from such emails or letters for sure

2 good candidates for a role, cannot decide which one to go with, oh wait one of them sent a very polite "thanks for your time email".....can make a difference in a few small cases

NB-I am presuming you can pull off "not a snivelling lick" in the email!

Anything that might give you a bit of an edge is worth the time it takes.

At the very least it's an opportunity to reiterate your interest in the role and imo you can never go wrong with a bit of courtesy.

Tell Tale things would be telling you about how the second round interviews / final interviews process will proceed.

I have said it in previous threads.

    I ask the interviewer

"How do you think I fit in this position?"

The answer is your tell tale sign.

    Just another quick question folks.

I had an interview last Wed, anyways at the end of it they said they'd be back in touch within a week to 7 working days. Would it seem a little pushy if I was to email tomorrow enquiring about it and what would I say?

Yes It would be seem pushy but more to the point it would seem impatient. Impatience is not something good in an employee because you can quickly become bored in your position.

Don't give yourself any rope to hang yourself. I was extremely impatient until I was recently offered a job but I had to try hard to keep myself from e-mailing / ringing anybody for updates unless it was the recruitment agents. I plagued them everyday. :D

You could send them an e-mail saying you were pleased to meet them and after meeting them and finding out more about the company you are truly confident that you are a good fit for the role and the company is right for your career progession etc.

Just thanking them mind, no asking questions in the e-mail.

I totally agree with this. When I went for interview for my job, I had a gruelling 1.5hr interview, lots of questions. I was given an application form to fill out & send back in. I sent this the next day & reiterated strongly in it about how I would be good for the job, I was very enthusiastic about it. I got a call the next day & got it. I later found out that they give the person the application form to see if they will bother filling it in & sending it back. Even if they did a brilliant interview, they won't get a call til the app form comes back in. You'd be surprised how many people don't send it back in!

So yeah send an email or better yet a letter, no questions, just reiterate why you are good for the job, thanks for interview etc

Wait until the the 7 working days is up and then if you still have not heard. Send a polite and humble email, I hope you don't mind me contacting you or I hope this is not too much of an intrusion or the like blah blah blah.... ask if you could trouble them to give you an update on the status of your application. Reaffirm your interest in the role and thank them again for taking the time to meet with you.

At least you got a response. It would be worse if you didn't hear anything.

    :(

    Not looking good.

I had a first interview with a company on the 24th March and they were still playing around wondering when they would interview on the 24th April.

Eventually during early May they still were putting it on the long finger. I told them in early May, after being more or less offered the position Im starting soon, that I was not interested in them anymore. I was the only person being interviewed which I was told was basically an offer.

Two days later the recruitment agent rang and said they wanted to offer me the position over the phone. I told them to "sling their hook". I had to keep telling myself "Im in a rush because Im broke but THEY ARE NOT"

Don't push it any further. If they want you they want you and if not then I am truly sorry. :(

    Hi Op

I would concur with Bertie, don't push it anymore.

I would have thought that too but I went for a job there recently, had a 2nd interview and had to wait ten days until they said those lovely words, 'we'd like to offer you the job'.

The thing is at the interview whilst I knew I did a good job it was very hard to gauge the interviewers, sometimes it is really hard to tell, unfortunately patience and nail biting has to ensue, but don't give up hope, they may let you know. For all you know they may have a number of people to consult, I know that was the case in my situation.

Did an interview Friday 14th, was the last person to be interviewed and was told he'd make his mind up "early next week". The successful candidate would be brought in to be assessed by the Ops Manager. Haven't got the PFO yet, what do you reckon?

I'm not that optomistic but would realish the challenge of the role.

Was this a company based in the North?

North side of the city, only one vacancy.

Got the PFO yesterday bang on the 7 working day. Nicely worded, almost personal with an invitation to apply for any future roles in the company.

Have a job, just the one I missed was a career rather than a job.
