Windscreen wash

What does everyone use for their windscreen wash?

I tend to use the ready made from Halfords, but it seems to make the car/windows dirty. And this is even after I have the car washed and the windscreen is then dirty from flies etc. You can see the stains from it on the bonnet too, just wondering if anyone else has noticed the same. Also when i spray the window, the window is clear for like 5 secons and then you can start to see streaks/residue from wash.

When I bought the car, the windscreen wash didnt stain the bonnet or make the windows dirty, might give them a shout and ask them.

I use the concentrated Halfords stuff, and noticed the spray was getting very thick, with residue on the screen where the the wipers didn't wipe it away. Turned out the water level was very low, seems fine now after topping up.

At a guess the cleaner didn't mix properly with the water and became over-concentrated at the bottom, or it cleaned all the gunk from the inside of the washer bottle, which was then squirted on the screen.

Thats helpful but its when I use the ready mix, i get the residue, might try adding water with the concentrate wash

Does anything actually remove bugs? I use the Halfords stuff and have tried a few others that claim to, but I haven't found any screenwash effective at removing their deceased remains while driving.

Only after a few washes do they come off.

Water and vinegar? Another good option to try

And then we get a cold night, your jets freeze up and can't see out your windscreen?

I just buy some cheap ass window cleaner at a Euroshop and mix that with water. Does the trick.

If you don't mind spending a few quid: EinZett Kristle Klar from Micks Garage is excellent. It won't smear all over the glass and works out cheaper than Holts over a year. Postage is dear, so I bought 5 bottles to keep me going for the next half decade :)

    Get yourself some GTechniq G1.

I've been using it for a while now and it's superb... far superior to RainX. I just use plain water for screen washing, along with a small amount of cheap white distilled vinegar to help prevent the nozzles from getting blocked up with limescale.

Did you escape the country during the past winter?

I had days where mine were freezing *with* screenwash (which is mostly alcohol to reduce the freezing point) in. It was -12C when I left for work a few mornings.

Yep, that W5 stuff is the business. Cheap as chips and no streaks afterwards.

The best thing to do is buy a 5L can in the motor factors. I use the blue Holts stuff, got 2 5L cans for 12e(offer) last time and throw about 1L in each fill (5.5L reservoir).

Got the concentrated Halfrauds concentrated stuff before too, its grand but I found that the smell off it is rank!
