Transfering Apple Care without Proof of purchase

    Hi all,

I bought a black macbook from an apple reseller 2 weeks ago off ebay. The auction said nothing about apple care but just out of curiosty I went on to the apple site and put the serial number in. It showed there was apple care till Sept 2011, happy days I thought until I rang apple and tried to get it transfered.

They have been helpful in a sense but won't transfer the apple care without orignal proof of purchase which I can't get as I don't even know who the orignal owner is.

I rang the company I purchased it from and they said they didn't even know there was apple care on it and they don't know who the orignal owner is because they buy the mac's in lots, refurbish them and sell on.

Anyone know if there is anyway around this ?

I wouldn't worry about it. if your mac ever needs a warranty fix it won't be an issue. Apple service providers will fix your mac. the only other benefit is the free telephone support from apple.

Unless the original owner put in a req to transfer his APP for that mac to a replacement one he got then you might have issues if it gets cancelled, otherwise there is not much else you can do.

Just a quick update, I rang a company in Ireland and they checked the apple care via their system and it's showing as covered. So happy days, puts my mind at rest just incase something does go.
