    Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone is doing or has done this course either full or part time??

I'm looking into doing this course at the moment and would love to know about peoples' experiences of it so any info would be much appreciated:)

    Doing course part time.
Started with about 30 in class now down to about 25.
As part time, heavy on the theory side - cell biology & anatomy.
One or two waffle modules thrown in as well.
Saucy if you have to pay for yourself - about 7K per year.

    Hi Scar,

Thanks for the reply! It certainly is a pricey course so thats why I'm keen to find out as much as possible about it beforehand. Would you consider the content to be difficult and are the staff helpful?

30 down to 25 is a fairly big drop in numbers when you consider the cost of the course and its fairly short duration. Do you feel this course will provide you with good employment prospects and would you reccommend this course at all? Hope you dont mind all the questions but i'd imagine if I ring the faculty itself they will only be plugging the course and Id like a students perspective:)!
    Cheers

Content isn't difficult would consider it to be considerably lighter than a degree.
Staff are fine but I am on the part time course which is mostly people working in medical/pharma industry. Think we probably ask more questions and demand a bit more.

Not sure why people dropped out but if your employer is forking out 7K and you change jobs or get let go then you have to come up with the fees which are considerable. Think if your employer is registered with Skillsnet they can claim back 20% of fees. Or if paying yourself and are working you can claim back 20% on tax.

Most of my class are already working and have good jobs. I think it would help employment prospects as people on part time course are from companies like Boston, Elan, Cook, Stryker etc. so obviously these companies support the course. I did it as a plan B. Heard a guy on the radio saying that a degree today was the equivalent of the leaving cert 20 years ago.

As I am working, I didn't have the option of doing a course full time and there was n't a lot of flexible part time courses out there.

I may be biased, but for me medical device/pharma is currently the only game in town. Company I work for are flat out 24/7, still taking on people.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

Thanks for your help Scar, I submitted my application for the full time course there last week so am just waiting for the next step in the process so il prob pick your brains again re interview etc!!

It pains me that it costs €7k and the rest so I really want to make the right decision!!

Confused graduate, NUIG is prob the first one I looked at and just appeals to me the most. The NCBES seems to have a really good reputation and loads of different things going on research wise. But I wish there was a crystal ball that could tell me the best course to do. . . . . .:)
