Ah you gotta love it. After Apple sued HTC over iPhone patents, HTC aren't going down without a fight.
HTC Corporation has gone on the offensive today and is taking legal action against Apple. Today found the handset maker filing a complaint with the International Trade Commission (ITC) in an effort to halt iPhone, iPad and iPod imports into the US.

"As the innovator of the original Windows Mobile PocketPC Phone Edition in 2002 and the first Android smartphone in 2008, HTC believes the industry should be driven by healthy competition and innovation that offer consumers the best, most accessible mobile experiences possible," said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of North America, HTC Corporation. "We are taking this action against Apple to protect our intellectual property, our industry partners, and most importantly our customers that use HTC phones."

According to the press release, HTC believes Apple infringes upon five of their patents. As to what they are, we don't quite know. More on this as it develops.

They're not going down without a fight!

Nobody's going down, to be fair. They come on tough but these patent disputes almost always end in licensing agreements.

    Fun to watch though.

We now have Nokia and Apple suing each other, HTC and Apple suing each other, Apple and Kodak suing each other, NetAirus suing Apple, Softview suing Apple, and Microsoft threatening to sue everybody.

    Fantastic.

Is Google suing anyone or are they just the puppet masters?

Nothing major at the moment afaik. I think most people are too scared to sue Google and they don't seem too bothered about getting involved directly.

With the amount of innovation in that company, not to mention the amount of companies they've bought up over the years, they must have an enormous portfolio of patents at their disposal, which could easily be used in countersuits.

Microsoft are probably the only ones with the financial clout to even attempt it.

edit: i read your post wrong... I don't think they're going after anybody at the moment. They're nowhere near as litigious as Apple.
