Recently went in to sort out the dole while I'm job searching. Now there was supposed to be someone coming this week for a means test(?), mon-thurs but they haven't come yet. What did come was a letter saying that my claim has been 'Authorised' and that I would be receiving a 'decision award notification' shortly.

It says my first collection date is this friday. I literally applied a week ago today so I'm just wondering is this all correct? Seems like it went very fast, like the means tester hasn't been out yet and I don't even know how much I'll be getting.

Did you have a claim open from last year?
Did you apply for Jobseekers Allowance or Benefit?
Was the letter hand written or computer generated?

    No I didn't.

    Jobseekers allowance.

It's a printed letter with the dates and signatures and post office address etc filled in by hand.

Right, either they've paid you already (without the required interview) or else they mistakenly authorised your claim on the computer which automatically sent out that letter but subsequently cancelled your claim authorisation until you do the interview!

Well there's still a day left to go for the means tester to come. Re: the letter, like I said, all the important stuff is hand written. Hoping this is not a mistake anyway :(

Sounds strange alright. They've put you into payment without doing the interview? The means tester is too late now if your money is getting paid this Friday. You'll need a PPS card to collect the payment.

Did you send in documentation such as bank statements? There may not have been a need for you to meet with an inspector and they calculated your means based on documentation supplied by you.

Yeah my proof of address was a bank statement so I'm guessing that was it. Anyway got my payment thing today so it's all sorted. Absolutely shocked that it was sorted in a week. Thanks for the help.

14 weeks to be told my claim was closed 7 days after I made it.

Social Welfare have often sorted me out in a week. One time it took them three weeks but that's the longest I've waited. I put it down to attitude personally.

I came off a FAS course at the start of the year and signed back on. Was done and dusted in a week, but two other people are still awaiting payment. Odd to say the least.
