It doesn't really matter as long as the one you get is a recognised brand. Continental do kits for VAG cars.

You should also consider getting the water pump done when you're at it.

I agree with ksimpson. You should do the water pump too. I put a continental kit into my Octavia and its been fine so far.

I've used continental belts on several cars over the years and their perfectly fine.

As said already, continental belts are fine. So are Gates and SKF kits. But you should price the genuine kit too. Sometimes theres very little in the difference between spurious and genuine parts.

i got my kit for a leon tdi (same thing) off a dealer in the north for 110 euro delivered last year. local garage wanted 75 alone for the tensioner (spelling). i think i got the belt. tensioner roller and bolt + fan belt for the 110. had to get a water pump seperatly. vw do an exchange on the water pumps so they are not dear off a dealer.

You will need to get someone with a vag-com system to connect to the car and clear the service alert. Ask your local garage if they have it. They will charge you about 70 euro for the priviledge though.

On the Octavia its press and hold the trip reset while you switch on ignition, release and twist to the right, might be the same for Golf.
