Deadlfit stalling due to girly hands

Howdy, I've been doing the starting strength program for a couple of months now and my deadlift has been stuck on 95kg for a couple of weeks, my squat has actually caught up with my deadlift, which isn't good!

Basically the bar seems to slip from my grip on my last set. I do have quite small hands and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to barrel past this as there doesn't seem to have been much of a change in the last couple of weeks.

    Thanks!

Use chalk. Are you using a mixed grip?

I'll be honest I didn't know what a mixed grip was until right now, it looks like it might be worth a try...

It definitely is, your lifts will defo go up once you start using it too.

Also continue doing your warm ups with the regular grip.
Switch to the mixed grip for your work set.

This helps your grip get stronger.

Do definitely, I was stalling on 100kg for ages until I changed to a mixed grip three weeks ago, I'm on 120kg with no grip problems.

I have a pretty weak grip too. I will always start off with a regular grip and switch to a mixed grip during my sets when I start failing with the regular grip.

Farmers walk will sort that grip out.

    Ditto on the mixed grip.
Palms inwards to strenghten your grip - when that gives switch to mixed grip. Increase weight and continue.

Also try those cheap brick layers gloves at €2 a pair - rubber palmed (green or blue in colour) and good for gripping.

Chalk, mixed grip and heavy deadlifting

Chalk is a must for doing deadlifts;made a difference of +30kg for me.The likes of www.maximuscle.ie recommend only deadlifting every two weeks, due to its strenuosness.Make of that what you will.Your deadlift 1RM should be a minimum 50% heavier than your 1 RM barbell squat.

I wouldn't worry about anything that comes from maximuscle. Ever.

I'm gonna throw straps into the equation. Sure, people will say it's cheating but if it's okay to wear a belt then why not straps.

If you're not competing in powerlifting then there's no reason not to use straps.

I would rather wear straps on my heaviest set than switch to a mixed grip. I've just got a thing with symmetry.

    Anyway, something to think about

Straps at 95kg is a waste and will be bad for your grip in the long run.

I agree. But when the weight gets 'heavy' it's a viable option imo.

Personally, I don't know how someone can't hold onto 95 kgs.

Grip strength is important to more aspects of training than just deadlifting. The ability to pick up a dumbbell, do pull ups, grip a bar tight during a bench press etc. can all be compromised by relying on straps too much.

I agree straps have a place in training, I use them myself for heavy shrugs, rows etc. when my grip is shot from deads, but its better to work on the grip and use straps as a last resort where possible.

I havn't read the other posts but if you're not using mixed grip then you're grand because mixed grip will sort you out.

    Change your grip each set.
