I'd really love to know where John O'Donoghue is, what he is up to in an official capacity and how much he is currently earning from us......

he is a TD for South Kerry

he was at the Oireachtas Committee hearing about the new dog breeding legislation yesterday and argued against parts of it (reported in papers)

basically he is getting the usual TD salary plus expenses

given recent debates about the Ministerial pensions I doubt he is getting one as he would have been mentioned

Any truth in the rumours that he has given a suitably low key 'busy-work' role in the Economic Idiotfest known as NAMA?

What does it take for someone to actually have to resign from Irish Politics - do they have to be caught red handed with a corpse in the boot of their State Car and a smoking gun in their pudgy, greasy, greedy little hands or something?

In fairness, if their constituents refuse to make such TDs fall on their respective swords, it's not surprising that they refuse to do so voluntarily.

I wrote an article on this topic back in February. Here's the relevant quote:
Almost unbelievably, he has now been appointed to two different Oireachtas Committees in recent weeks. The first being the Oireachtas Environmental Committee and secondly, but more importantly, the Oireachtas Committee on Economic Regulatory Affairs. While both of these appointments are unpaid roles, the Committee on Economic Regulatory Affairs may be asked to take part in the upcoming inquiry into the Banking Crisis. His appointment to the latter committee was welcomed by its Chairman, Fianna Fail TD Michael Moynihan, who seemed to be brimming with enthusiasm with the appointment of O’Donoghue. When referring to the appointment, Moynihan was quoted as saying that “He’s very able and experienced. We have a lot of serious work to do in the committee and I know he will contribute to it”.

John O'Donoghue sit on the Oireachtas committee for Economic Regulatory Affairs now does he?

    - Only in Ireland would the farce be allowed turn full circle to this extent....... Maybe Fianna Fail could ask Padraig Flynn to come back on board with his lifetime achievement award in his back pocket and set up a task force to seek out Offshore Accounts etc.
While both of these appointments are unpaid roles

    Aw :(

    - Now fair enough he had to resign due to living a lifestyle that the French Aristocracy would have been jealous of while making the common working Dope pay for his horrific excess..... But now he is working in unpaid roles and probably has to go through the bins outside Lidl searching for scraps of food?

I think we should have a whip 'round and send him on €20 each.

Yup, I remember reading this a while back and thinking that if there's anyone who hasn't an iota what economic regulation and justifiable costs and value-for-money then it's O'Donoghue.

Typical FF really, so I'm disgusted but far from surprised.

FF are scumbags, but at the end of the day Liam it's the people of South Kerry that put him there and will in all likelihood put him back in there in a couple of years. Why do people think these politicians will clean up their act, when there's no penalty for their behaviour?

I'm not singling out Kerry South, plenty of questionable characters are in Dail Eireann, not least the bass drinking people's man from Drumcondra . Makes me embarrassed to be a Dub!

Did I not hear he was one of the TDs stuck abroad during the first volcanic ash cloud incident (obviously this was a good while back)? Meant to look up what exactly he was doing abroad.

I've said it on here before. We need to give the standards in public office body some teeth. If you breach certain standards you should not be permitted to run in a national election. Simples

Yes, he was lobbying on behalf of the greyhound industry like his compatriot, Senator Phelan. Animal welfare is not a vote catcher in South Kerry!

    JFK Kerry-style.

The Irish Electorate is honed and ultra discriminatory - one of its main tenets in selection criteria is a careful consideration of who exactly has ejaculated in whom and if the offspring is somehow raised to the age of 18 without their own stupidity ending their miserable existence then the People will come out and vote for them no matter what sort of a slack-jawed, spineless, shifty, useless, utterly repugnant Gobdaw they actually are.

They say "Dont judge a book by its cover". But in O Donohoores case, do judge it by its cover. He looks like a sneaky, untrustworthy Fianna Fail gangster. And guess what? Thats exactly what he is! He should be in jail. But this country is a bit moronic.

Kevin Myers does a good analysis of the politics of kerry:
    http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/kevin-myers/kevin-myers-kerry-has-zoned-enough-land-to-supply-the-building-needs-of-six-times-its-population-2179618.html

" But Kerry really is a place apart. A county that not merely elects Martin Ferris, Jackie Healy-Rae and John O'Donoghue, but almost hero worships them, clearly does not live by the rules that the rest of us aspire to. "

I don't know where he is right now, but the best news I could receive this morning is that he has been eliminated from the election!.. He might be found crying into a pint in Caherciveen tonight! Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish!

In any other country he would be in jail for the amount of money he wasted on himself and his wife flying all over the world 1st class to horse racing. Its a disgrace that he was even allowed to remain in any public office a single day after all the info about his expenses became known...Fair play to Ken Fox for his good work on this story! He probabally save the tax payer a fortune by showing this guy up for what he really is.....

In England in the last two months, MP's got prison for just fiddling their meals expenses and other much smaller items while being stripped of their elected role.

What did our shower do? Reassigned him to another position with a payoff, another pension to collect from his new role and gave him just as much expenses and perks yet again.

Welcome to the state of Irish politics today - and FG are just as bad for allowing it to happen for they did really nothing to speak out against it!
    - Maybe because some of their own were/are up to the same antics - It would have been the pot calling the kettle black and FF would have stated that in the Dail!
...So FG let him slither away comfortably!

Good luck to others doing that now that SF are in the Dail and a force to be reckoned with!

The Dail is now going to get more serious and hopefully more honest - for the corrupt could be more exposed now and called out on their actions. You can be sure Gerry Adams is not going to sit quietly and let this crap continue.
