Fastest road legal Porsche yet - article:

After a couple of leaks here and there, the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has finally been revealed. The new 911 GT2 RS will make its world debut in August at the Moscow Auto Show and will go on sale in the U.S. in October with a starting price tag of $245,000.

Power comes from a 3.6L flat six with twin, variable-geometry turbochargers allowing for a total of 620-hp, up from the 530-hp on the outgoing GT2. Weight has been cut by 154 pounds for a total of 3,020 pounds, allowing the car to have a power-to-weight ratio of just 4.9 lbs per horsepower. Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 2011 911 GT2 RS goes from 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and keeps going until it hits 205 mph. Stopping power comes from Porsche Composite Ceramic Brakes (PCCB).

Porsche says that the car lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:18, beating the Corvette ZR1 around the famous German track. With that in mind, Porsche says that the 911 GT2 RS is the “fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Porsche.”

Porsche will limit production of the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS to just 500 units.

Note: Sadly, Porsche only released one photo of the 2011 911 GT2 RS – we’ll bring you more as soon as we get them.
    2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS:

    Press Release:

Porsche 911 GT2 RS – Most Powerful, Street Legal Porsche Ever
Ultimate 911 extracts 620 ultra-efficient, twin-turbocharged horsepower from 3.6 liters; dramatically improved power-to-weight ratio and increased fuel economy

ATLANTA – May 12, 2010 – The time: seven minutes, 18 seconds on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The power: 620 hp. The weight: 3,020 lb (1,370 kilograms) in road trim with all fluids on board. The car: the new 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

90 More Horsepower, 154 lbs Less Filling
The latest 911 is the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Porsche. With horsepower (hp) up by 90 and weight down by 154 lbs (70 kilograms) in comparison with the previous 911 GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratio of just 4.9 lbs (2.21 kg) per horsepower, by far the best power/weight ratio in its class. These are the ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance sports car with supreme agility and truly blistering performance on the road. Perfectly illustrating Porsche Intelligent Performance, the 2011 GT2 RS achieves a reduction of approximately 5 percent for both fuel consumption and CO2 emission reduction when compared with the previous 911 GT2.

The 3.6 liter six-cylinder boxer engine features two variable turbine geometry turbochargers and provides power to the rear wheels exclusively through a six-speed manual gearbox. Equally impressive stopping power comes from Porsche Composite Ceramic Brakes (PCCB).

Unique Tires, One of a Kind Performance
New tires were specifically developed for the 911 GT2 RS and measure 245/35 ZR 19 at the front and 325/30 ZR 19 at the rear, delivering cornering performance to match the straight-line speed. Extreme cornering dynamics are ensured by the setup of the springs, Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management (PASM), unique anti-roll bars, specific engine mounts and recalibrated Porsche Stability Management (PSM), whose stability and traction control functions can be switched off individually.

The combined effect of these developments is evident on the racetrack. In fact, the ultimate 911 accelerates from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, boasts a top-track speed of 205 mph and laps the famed Nürburgring-Nordschleife racetrack in just 7 minutes and 18 seconds.

    Carbon Fiber, Limited Production
In its looks, the new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly from the other 911 models through the lavish use of carbon-fiber-reinforced (CFR) components with a matt-black surface finish, even wider wheels (including flared wheel arches at the front), new light-alloy wheels with central locking and “GT2 RS” model designations on the doors and rear lid. Matte-finish carbon also graces the redesigned front spoiler lip and the 3/8th of an inch (10 mm) taller rear spoiler lip – which both enhance aerodynamics and provide extra downforce.

The interior of the 911 GT2 RS also exudes sporting performance in virtually every detail. Lightweight two-piece bucket seats made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic are standard, as are lightweight door panels with fabric straps instead of traditional door handles. The basic interior color is black, which contrasts with red elements, such as the seat center sections, the roof lining and segments of the steering wheel rim. The gearshift and handbrake lever are also finished in red alcantara.

Limited to just 500 units worldwide, the 911 GT2 RS will be available in the U.S. October 2010 and will have a MSRP of $245.000. The GT2 RS is making its world debut at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th 2010.

    Partly true.

The Dauer 962 LeMans would be faster. It was a Porsche race car, modified for road usage by Dauer and was much faster than this car.

0-60 in 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 250mph. I would imagine it was never allowed to be considering for the fastest ever street car due to such low numbers being built.

Not classed as a Porsche - It's a Dauer, along the lines of 9ff etc.

It kinda seems that way doesn't it :o

Come on folks I know it's only the latest incarnation of a well known version of a well known model - but it's still a serious machine......

True. I read somewhere that porsche are the most profitable car maker in the world by rather a large margin?

I'm not a fan or the brand I have to say, and I loved the way the GTR made a mockery of their overpriced 80s mobiles!

    WANT :D

there is a great post over on octane from some fella that recently bought a GT3, makes me want some proper fast car goodness in my life again

Does it have a red DI ?

I don't think I'd be comfortable driving that on Irish roads. I'd have a broken spine or the suspension would need to be replaced. But I still wouldn't say no to one :D

Looking forward to hearing about how it handles.

its just another 911 though. I'm sick of 911's; they're not good looking cars, the engines in the wrong place and they're just endlessly slightly different versions of the same car for the last 10 years. Boring

I was gonna say I would prefer to just buy a nice older version. Don't see the point in these new ones. But I was afraid of the backlash! :pac:

I think it sums up the motors forum.... Unless it says Skoda on it people aren't interested.

If the title of the thread was - bog standard Skoda Octavia goes round the Nurburgring in 15:00 mins - it would have had 10,000 views....

Yeah and the cars that are talked about in here most of the time aren't boring?!

I'll take a Porsche over 90% of the stuff talked about in here anytime.

Maybe most people are not interested in super cars?

Personally I don't care much about the Veyrons or Porsches. They make for nice photos and some good TopGear fun. But that's it for me.

So yeah I'd much prefer to read about some nutter modding a Skoda Octavia and pushing it around the Nurburgrin.

The 911 GT2 RS here may be a supercar but most porsche's aren't.

I don't understand why anyone would enjoy reading about some Skoda Octavia RS that just about puts out 170 BHP... IMO they suck.

Amazing performance, not sure how I feel about the CF bonnet though, kind of on the fence :/

+1. Not surprised that there's very little interest in this thread, it's an amazing, insane car but most people here just want to talk about Skoda's, changing brake light bulbs, motorway etiquette and VRT. Very few posters in this forum are car enthusiasts.

IMO they are one of the nicest looking cars ever made. If you think they are boring you need to go out and drive one.

I've only driven a Carrera 2, but its one of my most favorite cars ever, and if I won the lotto, a 911 would be the first thing I'd buy.

GT2 RS looks fantastic too IMO :)

Does anyone else think that the fried egg headlamps from the 996 look better than the old style circular headlamps on the 997.

Its like they took a step backwards.

I've always been madly in love with Porsches, fast Nissans and the F40.
Maser's have come into my heart in the last few years.

That GT2 RS is one of the best looking cars going and would definitely be on my list of things to leg it out and buy straight after winning the lotto.

A GT3 RS and a GT-R are the other two.

I feel the same way. The 996 headlights looked more intimidating, like they mean business whereas the 997 round headlights look boring and lazy. The 996 headlights were especially effective on the 996 GT2 IMO, with the huge front intakes.

In terms of looks, I prefer the 996 GT2 over the 997.

I personally like the circular ones. To me the best looking 911 is the 964 followed by 993, though there's nothing wrong with the 996:)
