I see that "Kick Ass 2" has been given the go ahead.
Millar is currently penning a sequel to his Kick-Ass comic.
Kick-Ass 2 will reportedly begin production in 2011.
According to reports, the sequel, titled Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, is being eyed for a 2012 release date.
Millar made the announcement in a statement about his plans to launch a new magazine called CLiNT which will feature original comics and commentary.

It seems Kick Ass 2 has been given the go-ahead.
It’s reported the second movie will be called “Balls To The Wall” and will go into production next year...

Douchebag? What's a Cork person using a word like that for? All I said was that I wasn't going to see it, you have a problem with that, boy?

I know. Most people loved it. I'm one of the minority who didn't.

First one was OK, but not good enough to get me excited about a sequel to be honest. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but that's fine.

Thats fair enough. Loads of stuff out there that others wouldn't look twice at - that I do. :)

corcaigh 07, was that really necessary? No.

Let's at least try and keep it civilised guys.

As for me, I didn't think Kick Ass was entirely worthy of the hype, but it had plenty of good moments (not least one of the best action scenes I've seen in a while in the dark warehouse). There are ideas that could be built upon in the right hands, so a sequel could work, but hopefully it won't just be rushed out to capitalise on the success of the first.

Ah he's from Cork what would you expect?

Which isn't a particularly helpful comment either. Now let's please keep this thread on the topic of Kick-Ass 2, no more insults please.

It could be worse Benny Lava - it could be yet another "Sex in the city" film god help us! LOL

    and...

    this comes to no surprise.

Under the hype and the controversy and the visual flair kick ass was a by the numbers comic book origin story film.

so it'll get a by the numbers sequel.

despite not having the marvel logo plastered all over it the film still felt like it got the same processed treatment and I say it will be the same for the sequel.

sadly it will lose two of its strongest elements in the sequel and keep the weakest. with both big daddy and the mob boss dead the two strongest roles in the first film are gone and I assume Chris muntz will be kept on and he was by a long shot the weakest aspect of the first film.

Mark Strong certainly does play a good bad guy. Ahh, i'm sure this will still be fun. Kick Ass wasnt exactly fantastic, but it was fun to watch. I'm sure this will be decent.

Not sure what to think about this. Sure, I really enjoyed Kick Ass, even after reading the comic and enjoying parts of that more. But the 'origin' story gave Millar a lot of wiggle room for comedy and plot. I'm not sure how he'll handle things now that crash-mat isn't there. I'm sure it'll be fun. But as fun as the first film? Remains to be seen... obviously.

I didnt mind the first film, it was ok, I wasnt the biggest fan but it was refreshing to see a different spin on the comic book genre.

I thought Christopher Mintz-Plasse said on his Twitter last week to not believe the stories and that nothing had been decided yet? I'm a little dubious because the movie didn't do great in America and it's worldwide gross isn't too high.

I loved Kick-Ass (second favourite movie this year) but without Mark Strong and Cage's character and that terrible title, I wouldn't be too excited at the prospect. Now that Goldman and Vaughn are moving onto bigger (budgeted - X-Men: The First Class) things I would definitely need them both back on board

now i wonder is there more story from the original comic that this next movie can use?

very excited tbh :D but afraid to get disappointment!

I've read the comic book, it's a shorter version of the movie so it will have to be new material for the sequel. I loved kick ass so I'd love to see another one. I wouldn't mind seeing a spin off prequel of an origin story of big daddy and hit girl. At the same time, red mist as the main villan is fine by me too

but we already know the origin story.

They did a 3 minute animated recap explaining their backstory. Fair enough we might know how it turns out but I think it could be made into a good movie.

Spiderman is being rebooted back to a teenage spiderman and hulk was rebooted with an origin story again after only a few years after the first attempt. So i don't think that people knowing the jist of the story would hurt the movie

Batman was rebooted but they didn't make an entire film about how Bruce Wayne's parents were killed. it was in fact a 3 minute exercise just as much as Burton's original take was as brief...same as BD/HG's backstory was given the once-over.

Personally I love Matthew vaughan's films and I believe Kick-Ass 1 is far more enjoyable than the comic, so Millar's sequel may suck but I think Vaughan and Goldman will make us happy again...

They may well get another cool cameo here and there :)

Yon cant compare Bruce Wayne's parents to Big Daddy and Hit Girl. Big Daddy And Hit Girl are far more involved in the story and are actually entertaining and interesting. Bruce Wayne's parent are only there to give him a reason to fight crime. I don't think the 2 sets of characters are comparable.

I believe it would make a good movie, although i highly doubt it would ever be made

doing origin story to big daddy/hit girl just doesnt have the content currently existing so will require new content which will then run the risk of messing up the continuity with the original film and requires someone like mark miller to try and actually try and create more content for characters and keep it interesting.

At the moment beyond what happens in the film and what is shown in the 3 minute animated recap there is not alot there, the timeframe from prison to the start of the film is not very much, there is no room for other villians or narratives.

It just seems to be a waste of time.

In comparison to other comic book origin stories and reboots

Spiderman is being rebooted back to a teenage spiderman

yes a reboot, but the content is there with the focus being on the ultimate spiderman series which follows its own plot with a teenage spiderman, its not so much a reboot of the film franchise as an adaptation of the ultimate series over continuing with the original. Just no point wasting time and effort trying to sell it as that rather then simply spiderman *again*
and hulk was rebooted with an origin story again after only a few years after the first attempt.

Yes the hidden reboot. The second hulk film took the route of simply ignoring the first film rather then being a full on reboot, a short 3 minute animated sequence (hmmm...) explains origin and then the film moves on to a plot which if you cut that 3 minute sequence out you wouldnt blink twice at it being a direct sequel. And that 3 minute sequence was pretty much the same as the first film except it cut out all the daddy issues and hulk being a "pretty butterfly" from the first film.
So i don't think that people knowing the jist of the story would hurt the movie

The difference between the above and kick ass is that there is alot more content to draw from so doing an origin story is easier and more interesting as there is alot more freedom around the original content. Unlike Kick ass which is what a five issue mini series and nothing else?

Well, SNL turn 2 minute sketches into feature length films so it can be done. SO THERE HA

Well Damn, I was thinking about how entertaing that movie could be and you had to ruin that little dream of mine with reason and logic
But seriously you brought up some good points, That pretty much sums up why it would never be made.

no they turn a series of 2 minute sketches over a series of scenarios and character interaction into character piece films.
