i broke my ankle and needed to have orif ankle surgery where a rod and screws were placed to fuse the break together...at the time i never really thought of the cost as the surgery was something i needed to have done..now some wks on im getting a bit worried as i dont have insurance cover so the cost will be straight out of my pocket and from talking to people this could well be quite expensive....would anyone know even a rough estimate of how much this would be...? has anyone been in the same boat....?

assuming you had the surgery done in a private hospital? you should have been advised of the cost when being told about the surgery as the consultant would have required your insured details, you telling him/her that you had none then the cost info should have been given to you. if not, contact his/her private secretary and ask for total costs.

if you went to a public hospital then you will be charged 75euro for each day you spent in the hospital.
