I can say with hand in heart, I don't....I'll engage in arguments and all that malarkey but not with any anger or hostility...just like arguing stuff out.....but sometimes I see in certain threads and in certain forums (not generally on AH thank god as it has the good sense to not take itself too seriously) where people seem to get really angry and annoyed. And then you read stuff about people getting cyber-bullied or sueing people based on internet discussions. Sometimes I read posts where people say they got really angry or were in tears or whatever and I sigh and console myself at how superior I am to all of this and at the same time wonder why the opinions of faceless strangers who don't have any executive power to affect what they are talking about get to people so much. If my nearest and dearest slammed some political or social ideal that was close to my heart then I might be taken aback for a while but the amount of people who take this internetz stuff way too seriously and get awful emotional about the odd slag or strong opinion in a post is unreal.

So folks please, for the love of god, put your mouses down and hand over your log-in details, it just ain't worth it.

Sometimes, not so much by anything that's in the posts.. just the mindless drivel that sometimes comes up.. like today, there's lots of shitty threads

The only time I've been close to tears is because of some the frequent fine examples of classic Irish wit. I've seen better comedy on boards than I have heard out of any comedian tbh.

No. TBH I never take anything on boards seriously. It's the internet. Why should I care what strangers I never met think about things?

As mentioned above, the comedy on here is second to none. I laughed my ass off numerous times, more so then I have at ANY comedian!

+1 It is the internet and it's important not to take it to seriously.

If you get in an argument with another poster it can happen. Neither person wants to be shown up but only one person can be correct.
Unless you're arguing for religion, then you can just throw out crap arguments about having some mysterious 'feeling' that you know you're right.

Then again, if posts on Boards have me in knots laughing, it would appear logical that other posts would annoy me, make me sad (i.e. tragic stories), make me happy... *reads 6th's post* oh yeah aroused, etc...

not at all...I'm not saying be numb to everything, i'm saying don't take stuff too seriously and having a laugh certainly falls within the don't take stuff too seriously category

I'm not sure. I just know that I wouldn't allow myself to get into a situation that I'd let an issue / member get the better of me. I guess its also to do with how a member uses the site. In more serious threads I'd go in, say my piece, then leave. Getting into a debate / argument about something doesn't interest me. If someone wants to disagree with me, then thats their perogative.

I used to get slightly upset. But then I stopped visiting the Airsoft forum and I'm a happy boardsie ever since. I was beginning to think all of boards.ie was populated with arrogant condescending bullies, but it turned out to be just and handful of people in that one forum. Shame though, as most the people there were really sound.

I used to get annoyed if I see someone post something that is just plainly offensive , but then I catch myself and realise that it just the internet and I have enough real stuff to deal with each day.

If you let the places you come to for escape upset you then I fear that you won't have any place to go. It's like going to the pub , you go to forget real life for awhile not to end up getting annoyed because someone says something you don't agree with.

mw2 forum is particularly popular with obnoxious users, even more so than politics forum which, surprisingly, is quite polite.

its all down to moderation really

One person in particular used to upset me. Then I found out that they knew me from real life, or more to the point they knew an ex of mine.

I usually don't care too much what people say but occasionally someone will say something that annoyies me a lot. As with the offline world, the online world also contains it's unfair share of aggressive and annoying pricks. There's also the usual handful who like to gloat and be smug about whatever is happening in their lives at the time. There are certain forums I don't visit anymore, either because of some of the regulars who post there, or because of some of the patronising and annoying topics/threads that some people start.

I also get annoyed when someone is being patronising and acting as if people should listen to them. It doesn't happen too often I don't think but some people take themselves and their opinions too seriously and get offended/shocked that others don't listen to them, which is the right of those other people too.

Nope not one bit. I do however picture some people who get into "it" with me jumping around in front of their pc in anger shouting out things like "you stupid ****ing cow", then going into some rant at me :D

I'd never get into an argument with someone on the net no point. But somethings piss me off big time. Not so much in AH because it's a light-hearted forum and everything goes.
But when someone posts a thread that they genuinely need help and you get grammar nazis or some smart-ass comment from thank whores its uncalled for.I remember there was a thread in Feedback that highlighted a mod who closed a thread that was in the wrong forum fair enough. But the poster was looking for advice etc etc and the mod couldn't lock the thread without leaving a smart-ass comment it really grinds my gears :o.

I surprise myself sometimes about strong opinions I can have about other posters. IRL, someone said the same thing to me as in a post, my response would be totally affected by their tone of voice, body language, intent etc.

But I find I really really like some posters and then really really dislike others. I have to remind myself a lot that its easy to get sucked into internet land and actually believe the poster is the persona I somehow have created the impression of in my head from their posts.

Much like in real life, I can get pretty worked up alright over internet goings ons, but then I'll calm down and laugh about it.

In general sometimes it annoys me because there are some posters who always act a certain way and have a really typical response and every time I see their username I don't even have to read the post to know it's a "oh-here-we-go" moment. But you're never going to like everyone so that's the way of it.

But some recent events on boards have actually really put me off it and for the first time in ages I haven't been reading it much.

Taking the opinions on boards as the general consensus and thought trends among the Irish public, then yes, some opinions are lamentable.

But then I know the world's screwed up and don't bother about it anymore.
