Lads, someone with more knowledge may know the answer to this as i'm not sure.

Friend of mine recently submitted 3 cards for handicap. He was told earlier today by the handicap sec of the club that his handicap is 13.

He logged into Golnet and under the details on Golfnet for handicap it say N/A

The secretary told him this won't activate until he swipes in using his GUI card. What i was wondering will this have to be in a competition in his home club?

There is an open competition in a club we were thinking of playing tomorrow, could this be his first time swiping in with the card? would this be ok?

Somebody here may be able to advise.....

I would think that'd be fine. It won't pick up his handcap though. He'll have to enter that manually. Even if it doesn't pick him up he will be fine to enter. Just submit the manual card.

Doesn't really matter to be honest. If it doesn't work, he can just sign in to the book along with everyone else there. He's got a legitimate handicap. The fact that a technical issue may stop him from swiping in to the computer does not prevent him from competing.

If a query is raised over his handicap, a Handicap Cert can be requested from the club, as with any other player. But this is highly, highly unlikely to be an issue.
