My current goal at the moment is to lose some body fat. I was wondering if it is important to get something into you post cardio or is it ok not to eat or drink anything? I'd do cardio late enough in the evening.

Is protein intake important at all for cardio?

My diet consists of 2 weetabix for breakfast
Something like chicken, veg and small amount of potato for lunch and then something like boiled eggs and brown toast after work before cardio usually with a fruit and veg shake thrown in as well.

Cardio is a mix of squash, jogging and football.

I can't currently do any upper body weights because of a shoulder problem.

Have lost about 10lbs since christmas primarily based on a calorie deficit but i'm starting to up the amount of cardio now and want to make sure i'm not doing anything wrong.

    5'10
    149lbs
approx. 14% body fat (rough estimate)

i'd definitely reccommend you take in some post cardio protein to prevent muscle catabolism(breakdown) your diet seems quite good for fatloss, just add a scoop or two of a high quality whey protein after you train and it will boost your results even further and ensure you maintain your current muscle

I'd generally have some protein after any kind of workout. I prefer to get it from food.

edit: But there again....I wouldn't generally go very long without eating in general. Largely because I'm a hungry so and so.

All depends on the cardio really id say.
30 minutes of light jogging is a whole different story to playing a full match for example

Bit of a mixed opinion then. Yeah the jog would probably be lightish exercise but the squash would usually be relatively intense and more like HIIT in that its flat out then break and flat out again just not in set intervals.

A glass of low fat milk is what I woul dactually have a lot of evenings before bed minus the jaffa cake!

I have used slimline milk in a pinch, but I'd rather eat some meat and a banana or something. It's just a personal thing. If you're looking for the generally touted post workout "carbs + protein" thing I think 500ml of slimline milk would probably be enough.

What have you got againest Jaffa cakes? If you've just done a hard session your body is going to need some carbs, it doesn't matter if they come from a fancy PWO shake, a bag of sugar or a tasty Jaffa cake.

Chocolate milk is another good one:

Nothing against jaffa cakes! I'd happily minch down a packet now if I wasn't trying to cut the fat.

Are carbs important then after cardio as well bearing in mind that i'm trying to reduce fat and the fact it would be late enough in the evening not long before bed?

Why drink slimline when you can drink whole milk though? More protein, more carbs.

Theres no less protein in low and slimline milk.

I was actually drinking 3 - 4 litres of nornal milk per day when I was doing starting strength before christmas and miss milk more than anything at the moment

so he should exercise and take no protein in after yes??? his main goal is to lose bodyfat and you recommend a banana as opposed to whey protein? which is proven to prevent muscle catabolism,is full of essential amino acids to improve body composition, enhance metabolism, wont spike insulin levels, help muscle recovery
etc.....what would be the reasoning behind this?? not being smart but i cant understand this, for an athlete of course i'd recommend carbs but for a fatloss goal carbs over protein?? it's recommended to consume up to 6 small meals a day to keep your metabolism boosted and every meal should have protein and as the day goes you should taper your carbs especiallly important to limit carbs at nightime when your energy demands are very low(unless your really lucky ;)and im assuming the op is training after ork and this will be their last food intake for the night....my recommendations whey protein or egg whites... , we will have to agree to disagree......and as far as the exercise goes i'd consider squash to be quite intense ie. sprints therefore tearing down muscle tissue
