    Congratulations.

I found the list on the following website was useful and not too intimidating, mainly because after getting engaged in April and deciding to get married in August I found a lot of other lists overwhelming because they started off listing what to do a year in advance etc.
    http://www.wedding-invitations-ireland.com

A quick search on google should bring up plenty more lists and they're a good place to start.....well for me anyway, I like lists :)

There are also lots of threads on here that are good for advice and ideas, if you do a search.

    Good luck & enjoy.

I'm sorry to hear that. But don't worry, after 15-20 years you will get used to it.

Congratulations! I also got engaged recently.

First, pick a time of year (roughly) that would suit you for A) the wedding and B) the honeymoon- you'd be surprised how lots of honeymoon destinations are really only suitable at certain times of the year e.g. our summer is winter in south africa so we had to rule that one out.

Second, see if you can realistically save up enough money for the type of wedding you want by that time of year. If not, push out the timing or scale down your budget. It's important to draw up a rough budget now.

Third, book your church once you've figured out all of the above. Especially if there is only one church you want and you want a Saturday.

Fourth, start looking at venues. You'll need to know how many you hope to have there before you bother looking at venues.

Anytime after all that in this order I would book:

    1) Band and/ or DJ
    2) Photographer
    3) Everything else

    Congratulations!!!

The first thing we did was discuss a rough date.

We then went & got a load of different quotes from different hotels as we knew the reception would be the most costly part. Depending on what type of wedding you want/can afford I think its wise to be realistic & arm yourself with as much info as you can.

Then we changed the date from Sept 10 to March 11 for financial reasons.

We booked our venue first - only after a huge amount of negiotation- bargain as much as you can- I got €5 per head off, free seat covers, bar extension, champagne reception, cheaper corkage etc because I'd done my homework & could prove what other hotels in the area were offering. Be careful though as I know a friend of mine who went too far & had a few problems with the hotel wedding co-ordinator....

Then the chapel & priest were booked
    Photographer was next
    Band after that

We got engaged in June 09 & we had those things booked in July/August.

We're getting into the finer details now & again have done alot of research- the internet is your friend! My own friends have a great help too giving advice & saying what to go for and what not to.
Good luck with it all- congratulations again!
