Good I actually prefer this to the proposed fight with Mora. Geale's a pretty decent fighter and a fight between him and Macklin will be well matched.
I think Macklin's power should be enough to see him through however.

Here the World rankings of both men:
    WBC-Macklin 7th, Geale 12th
    WBA-macklin 10th, Geale unraked
    IBF-Macklin 5th, Geale 7th
    WBO-Macklin 10th, Geale 13th
    Ring-Macklin 6th, Geale 8th.

The IBF's #2 spot is vacant, and their #1(Karmazin) is about to fight Sylvester for the title so both spots should be free soon. Due to that I think they could definitely make this fight an eliminator for the IBF title, which would be great for Macklin(and Geale) as Sylvester would be the easiest of any of the title holders to defeat.

Here's Geale in his close fight with Mundine a little while ago.

Hmmm, Hatton matching Macklin with Geale in Sydney and there is talks of Tszyu returning.

Totally agree Big Ears, much better risk/reward ratio against Geale. It would be a PPV in Oz as Geale is very popular (much more than Mundine) so I can imagine Mack will get a well deserved few bob for himself. Hatton has been good to the lad in fairness, if he does win, he really could get himself a title shot.

Sylvester is there for the taking, I think both Geale and Macklin would beat him, as would several other contenders and prospects. He may not even beat Karmazin.

This division is really being shook up now, Pavlik gone, Sturm ain't doing much, and so many young hungry boxers ready to pounce. Great from an Irish perspective.

My prediction: Macklin stops him. Geale has been put down many times by inferior boxers. A points decision would be difficult for Mack to achieve, especially when you consider he is fighting on Geale's turf, so I think he will really push hard to blast him away.

Good fight for Matthew, wish him well.

P.s. nobody wants to see Matthew fighting old Kostya Tzuyu, not gonna help him get a world title.

Myself and my mate went to see Geale vs Mundine for the world renowned IBO belt last year in Brisbane.

He's a good strong fighter who should have really won the fight, instead Mundine got it on an unpopular split decision. Apart from being knocked down at the start of the second, Geale handled Mundine pretty well and never looked in trouble.

Hopefully the gate would be decent but i wouldn't be too sure of the payday (from a PPV perspective) Geale would garner - there was more interest in the crowd of seeing some rubbish rugby convert Sonny Bill Williams make his debut against some loser.

And the venue was half-empty - despite this being billed an Aussie fight of the decade between two well-known domestics. Hatton would want to go big on the Irish schtick to get our fans out for the night.

lol, he said there was talk of Tszyu returning(and being part of the card for a Macklin vs Geale fight), not Tszyu returning to fight Macklin.

Tszyu would need to be the size Hatton is at the moment for that!

Although lets not rule out Hopkins calling out Tszyu at a catchweight of 174 to build his aussie rep up for a green showdown!!!

Hatton - Tszyu 2 is something that will defo be talked about over the next few months. A 40 year old opponent would suit Ricky and Tszyu has a chance to det the record right after retiring on his stool.

I'm not pushed one way or another if Hatton fights again but if his small hall shows have excellent undercards id love to see what it would be like if he was fighting himself. Possibly world and european title shots on the undercard and be great exposure for his prospects.

The world title scene is well and truely open at middlweight now. Duddy and Macklin have 2 tough fight coming up and if they can come through them we will at the very least have one Irish world title challenger sooner rather than later.

Just to clarfiy... Macklin is been trained by Roach, using ariza for strength and conditioning and still promoted by Hatton?

Apparently the Geale fight isn't happening as Winky Wright changed his mind and will be fighting Macklin on the JMM/Diaz undercard. At his stage I just want him in fighting someone, don't care who it is.

Geale would have been the best option imo, but apparently Macklin was dissatisfied with the cut from Hatton promotions he got for the Euro fight. Can't back these claims up, heard someone from another site say it.
