TUI voting

Are there other people with this experience. The voting cards came to the school today but I didn't get one because I was behind with my subs - by one month.

This happened because every (I think) year there is one month when substitutes do not get a payslip - around January - because between Christmas and half term the claim forms miss a month. The TUI only take subs from pay slips, so if one slip is missing you are missing a month, which you have to pay by cheque.

This year the usual 'you are in arrears' letter did not come and I forgot about it till now. Have they stopped advising us? It seems like an expensive arrangement anyway, but there must be a way of organising it. E-mail maybe? A direct debit will not work because we don't pay through the summer as we are unemployed.

I suspect a lot of people have been disenfranchised by this, unless its just me.

It's quite possible people have been disenfranchised, but it's your responsibility to make sure you are a member in benefit, particularly if you know there is an issue with the deductions at source. The TUI will take personal cheques and postal orders too.

I'm surprised they spent branch funds writing out to people to remind them. It would cost a fortune if my branch started doing that, not to mention it would drive the Treasurer/Secretary mental.

Its not the branches that were doing it, it was head office, and if you read my post you will see that I said I didn't think this was the best approach.

Its easy to say 'its your responsibility' etc, do you fill in claim forms? All I am suggesting is that, if there is no way of taking the payment every month, then it should be possible to see what the situation is. I don't even know which month I missed, though of course I can figure it out. And it turns out that in my school I am far from being the only one to get caught.

Meanwhile another teacher missed some payments for a fairly legitimate reason, but was told that he had to pay up the back money as 'he had been represented during that time'. But I am not 'being represented' at the moment, so it seems there are two sets of rules.

You are being represented, just not given a vote.

Just send in a cheque for the arrears.
