MK4VW Golf GTi Key/Immobiliser problem

My Golf has decided to go on strike, the engine starts to turn over but then the immobilizer kicks in and kills it.

-car battery is 100% and all electrics are working fine.
-batteries in both remotes are brand new.

What I want to know is:

Is there any fix I can carry out myself to shut off the immobiliser?
    or
do I have to crawl to a VW franchise service agent to get this fixed ( something I really can't afford at the moment? )
    or
can someone recomend me someone in the Laois/Offaly/Westmeath area who knows what they're doing in relation to fixing these issues?

    Gracias

there isnt anything you can do yourself with the immobiliser. that would defeat the point of it. did you try using the spare key? if the other key works its not a problem with the car. any garage with diagnostic equiptment will be able to plug into it and tell you whats wrong and hopefully be able to fix it, theres a possibility it will have to go to vw to get it recoded

    Not starting with either key.

there's the problem, can't get it to a garage as the bloody thing won't start.

I had the same problem about 12 months ago with my Mkiv Golf GTI.Does the immobiliser light flash on and off?
This is how I cured it. Tune on and off the ignition (without starting the car) 10 times and then try and start it. A car electrician told me this would work and it did for me!It's worth trying. It worked for me and It's been ok since. This happened over 12 months ago.
Let me know how you get on......

    Glad to be of assistance.
When I was told this I said ya ya ya but was prepared to try it.People laugh when I tell them how I sorted it.You should when you get a chance get the car scanned by somebody with vagcom and get them to clear the error code from the ECU.

I will do now that I can actually drive the thing again, know a guy with the VAG-COM setup will drop it to him on saturday
