    Hi,
I may be in the wrong place but I am looking to claim back "flat rate expenses" due to me as a teacher and want to know how I go about doing it? I have never claimed these expenses so can I go back 4 years as per the revenue? If so, what form/details do I need to senf to the revenue?

    Any help is appreciated! thanks

As far as I know you can claim this online, you must register on www.revenue.ie/selfservice/enterRegistrationDetails.faces or alternatively you can just contact you local tax office who will add the credit to your tax credits for the year.

Teachers are on a different PRSI class to take advantage of flat rate expenses.

Historically they were given allowances as their clothes got destroyed by chalk and things like that.

It's factored into PRSI now so you don't have anything to claim.

I seem to be falling into a little bit of a gap when it comes to claiming flat rate expenses. I have heard that someone in the leisure industry can claim under the PE teacher flat rate expense heading. Do you know if there is any truth to this?

Attached is a list of flat rate expenses for various type of employment, which would normally be agreed between the Revenue and the employee's representatives, usually unions.

Please note that these expenses do not to be vouched (i.e. receipts are not required to back-up such costs).

andiknowyou, normally the flat rate expenses for teachers is included in their tax credit expenses, so just make sure you already haven't the advantage of it before making a claim. Register for "PAYE anytime" on the Revenue website (link from their home page, www.revenue.ie) and follow the process from their to claim your tax rebate.

slotts, I never heard of that but no harm asking your local tax office; the worst they can do is say no!

    This is not correct.

PRSI rates and flat-rate expenses tax allowances are unrelated.

    See the Revenue details here:

I had two employments in the past, doing the same work in each.

I managed to get two flat-rate exps tax allowances, one full-time, one part-time.

However, the amount on my tax credit cert has been reduced back to the full-time allowance.
