NCT Question

    Hi

My NCT is on this thursday and yesterday evening for some reason both the speakers in my car and the passenger window (it's electric) decided to pack up at the same time. I tried to change the fuse but to no avail; it keeps blowing, and I really haven't any spare cash this week to get them fixed at a garage. I'm not worried about the speakers but would the window not working mean a fail on the NCT?

    Thanks

    Steve

    electric window? I'd say that's a fail...

Id imagine something like the electric windows, if it is a fail (which Im not sure that it is), would not require a full retest even if it did cause you to fail, so youre probably safe enough to put her through. Worst case scenario you get them fixed and go back to show them they are working and pick up your cert.

The only reason I could see if failing is if it is for safety reasons, as in, potentially you could be stuck in your car.

Its stupid as if it came down to it, you would just smash it in but anyway....

Try calling the NCT office in question and asking them?

I wouldn't bother, as djimi says, it's a visual fail - just put it through and sort it later. if you cancel your appointment then you'll be waiting again!

Don't worry about the passenger window, it's not a test item. The NCT only requires that the driver's window should open, See section 10 of the NCT manual
    Windscreens, Windows
    9 Insecure.
10 Opening mechanism of driver’s window not operating.

They only check the drivers window (to allow the drive to use handsignals). They shouldn't check the passenger window iirc so there should be no problem.

My old Astra had a similar problem, only the driver's side window worked, and at the NCT, the tester didn't said anything about the non-working passenger window.

Thanks for that guys. I'll bring it in to be tested with the problem and hopefully it will pass. I'll get the problem sorted next month when i have a few extra euros in thebank
