Is there an app that lets me receive SMS?

In the UK recently, I found that my mobile phone would not connect to any network (another story). I used my IPod Touch to send messages to my mates wherever possible (wifi) and called them on public payphones until we finally met up. It would have been great if the iTouch could have relayed their response messages via wifi....is there such an app around?

    Thanks.

There's a messaging app called "Whatsapp". It basically uses push notifications to act like an SMS/MMS app. It lets you send messages to anyone else who has whatsapp installed.

Obviously the primary problem here is that all of your mates need to have an iPhone or iPod touch and need to have this app installed.

I love it though, it works great.

    are they on facebook?

you could use im+ to keep you logged into facebook chat and use push notifications, tell your mates that you dont have phone but you are always on fb chat.

It works like the other apps that were mentioned - messages sent from EirText Pro users, using push sending, will arrive in any EirText inbox.
