Cathy Davey, Josh Ritter and Damo Dempsey for the Big Top. I am not impressed.

I appreciate they're trying to play it safe and cheap but bloody hell, you could throw a dart at a map of Ireland on a weekend and it would land on a venue where you'd see one of these.

I saw the Human League at Electric Picnic a few years back and they were fcuking brilliant!

Not exactly chin stroking high brow but a great gig.

Wouldn't mind seeing Heaven 17 either for that matter

I agree completely. Project '10'! The Arts Festival has been terrible for years and Project 06 had the better events and the better parade really.

Probably too late to do it *properly* for this year, although I hear there may be mini dissents! ;)
A good plan for next year would be great tho.

Does anyone know if the Galway Arts Festival takes on Volunteers? I would be very interested in helping out on the Admin. side of things for any such/similar projects taking place this year in Galway while I am out of work.

Yup, they do. A lot of the time it is ushering the larger events and stuff like that, but I know some people who have done volunteer in more administrative areas over the years. Pop them an email.

Yeah had planned on rounding up a couple of festivals and things and popping them off an email. These things may have an element of marketing etc. amongst other aspects, so it's all beneficial and experience going forward .....

    Thanks for your reply.

    Divine Comedy is/are playing.
Some good stuff 10/15 years ago (national express etc), haven't listened to anything since.
Imagine it'll be a 'jolly happy' gig

Pretty sure I saw something in the Advertiser yesterday about Rodrigo y Gabriela making a return to Big Top...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭slave2thewage

Got a ticket from ticketmaster which confirms Rodrigo y Gabriella.

I might go to the Human League, saw them in the Black Box for free back in '06 and it was amazingly fun.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭dolphin city

well if you want to see them in 2010 they will cost you a whopping 38.50 .

somehow I think it will be packed with the "corporate friends" of the Farts Festival - yknow to fill up all the empty spaces with their free passes.

Just got our tickets for The Human League. Saw them at The Electric Picnic a few years ago and they were the best act of the entire weekend.
For those who think Human League is just Don't You Want Me take a look (& listen) to these from 30 years ago:

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble looks excellent. Hear they are awesome.

OOO Breakestra are playing tonight in the RD!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 329 ✭✭samf

Saw Hypnotic Brass Ensemble a month ago in the Roisin Dubh and couldnt recommend them more, they're a band you have to see live!

I realise this may also be a long shot but if anyone knows of a spare ticket for apres match if you could let me know i'd be so happy!

Not officially part of the Arts Festival but there's going to be a great gig in Kelly's Bar on Bridge St tonight. Four crackin' local bands are playing- Fling, The Rye, This Nachez and The Timbertramps. MC for the night is Mrs. Nellie Murphy (who has been known to trek around Boards).
The gig starts at 8 pm and admission is a mere tenner. All proceeds to Access Music Project.

Was around town and there isn't the normal buzz around this year that I would associate with the Arts Festival

Arts Fest NEEDS more local and affordable shows
Arts Festival needs another *proper* fringe!

    There's a parade on Sunday?

Huh, so there is. I had no idea there was a Street Performance part of the GAF.

What I saw on the main site:
Theatre, Dance, Music, Comedy, Talks, Art pieces etc.

I missed the Street stuff completely.
If it helps, I just moved to Galway 2 months ago.

It's the Macnas Parade. Pretty much always been part of the festival happenings. Sometimes it is a night parade but this one is day.

    No idea about parking, sorry.

    I'd highly recommend "Tusk Tusk"

    http://www.advertiser.ie/galway/article/28054

I went to see it not knowing what to expect at all and left completely blown away by both the play and the performances (including that of 7 or 8 year old Liam Lawton who was fantastic.).

Galway Youth Theatre's shows are always a highlight of the Arts Festival and this definitely lives up to their high standards.

Coors light was the only drink they sold in the bar last year. Disgusting soap :(

Cheers - not a big drinker so I'm ok. I fear I'll have 4 angry sober companions though
