Do you find your most sincere and genuine questions can't be answered on boards?

I find this a lot on this website. It is great in all fairness but when I go to ask something that I am baffled about, and I ask, people don't reply. Any similar sites are the same. You ask a normal question and it gets answered, fair enough. But you ask something that you really want to know and have wondered for a long time and if people reply at all, they reply ignorantly/pedantically? Why can't people just reply with a basic answer or even a "I don't know but I do know that such and such site might help you?. These (specialised) forums seem to be full of "buffs" but when you ask a question, no one knows, or worse, they answer in the most ignorant way and don't answer your question in any way or form, often being pedantic and making you feel small for asking your (valid) question without actually answering it?

Depends where you ask, asking in AH is like asking your most cynical mate a question when he's loaded and you just rode his sister

Don't ask anything remotely serious on After Hours, seriously.

To be dead honest I wouldn't expect anybody online to answer personal questions in a way not accessible to anybody with mental facilities.

The problem is that the people online know nothing about you, your friends all do & they understand what you're like & can suit their comments to who you are.

Online people are responding to the general Joe Blogg's with the same rehashed sentences we all know.

I would always go to my friends as I'm lucky enough to have plenty of friends to whom I can say the strangest things to ;)

Boards.ie is great for math, physics, biology though & for topics of which I don't usually focus on or usually care to do so :pac:

I do know that asking on here is probably the last place I should ask but where else on boards can I ask a question like this? Also it will probably prove the point I'm trying to make.

Besides the fact that I asked on this section of the forum, it does happen on every section of boards and many other forums, so I think, despite the smart arse answers, I WILL get, it's probably no more than on any other section of this, or any other forum.

well if you have a pretty general question that isn't specifically suited to another forum aH isn't all that bad, you will get the piss pulled for the most part but at the same time you will get a couple of helpful posts and if they're very helpful then PM the poster

I don't think so. People become much more "refined" on other forums found on boards.ie

For example if you have a more personal question go to personal issues.

Work problems go to work problems

If you want to know something about a car go to motoring etc.

I have found the standard of answering from these forums to be generally top notch-but it's the internetz so take it with a dose of salt!

i guess it all depends what youre asking and how secure other user think they are, most users on any site must keep up a kind of image,me i just say it as i see it,but you need to have private messages with friends,i know it can be hard ,but you just need to find a good one.:)

Plenty of messers and serious folk alike on AH, your question will be answered if there's an answer, eventually, but you gotta ignore all the shít that goes along with it.

A lot of the forums are filled with elitest pricks. You have to work your way into the group and until then, you best just keep your mouth shut.

Most of the time I try to give an honest answer, my opinion or some kind of help. If you don't like it, then that's another thing ;)

Well it does depend on the forum you post in tbh.

Well now in fairness that does happen in After Hours.

Most forums you visit will have posters who will try to help with whatever query you have.

What particular forum or forums are you talking about?

My whole point is that I don't necessarily find that to be true. I have asked questions on many sections of boards' forum. I have also known friends to find the same problem. I recently came across a thread on the astronomy section where the OP seemed to be mocked for asking a very valid question. If people, on their "science" based forums, can't accept a question without ridicule then that is a VERY bad state of affairs, as science is based on asking questions, and valid ones at that. So why are people such ****s about it all? You want a question, you expect one. I know AH is different but on specialised forums, boards and otherwise, why would people act like this? Not just personal experience.

Because they feel they need to belittle others to seem more superior.

I think this is better suited to Feedback tbh, OP.
