Hi all just wondering is it possible to choose the channels you want on upc or do you have to get a specific pack. For example could i add just the music channels to my subscription without getting any other new channels?

No you cannot choose which individual channels you get. UPC group their channels into packs. See their website for more information:

As Trojan00 says you can not chose your own types of channels you want to watch which makes UPC such a great company

You will be ripped off by involuntarily paying for kids channels even though you will never watch these (let alone want them) so you are in for a treat there  Also you get fantastic channels such as Buzz and Smile.

You will also have to pay for Free to Air channels on sat such as all the BBC's, Sky News, BBC HD (if you're lucky enough to have this option available in less than 0.00000001% of the operational areas by UPC), 5 different language Euronews channels etc...

If you can, go for SKY as UPC is worthless unless you also want BB and home phone as I believe this is supposedly a great product. UPC TV alone = stay well clear...

UPC provide an excellent service IMO, few administration issues but the service itself is spot on.

obviously Cupart has had issues with them as i'm sure many others have aswell. but sky are no angles either, i know lots of people who have had a nightmare with sky and since moved back to UPC who find them much better.

    also Sky EPG is sh*t
you can not channel flick, as you keep getting 'you need to subscribe to this channel' where UPC just shows you the channels you pay for.

also no channel back button with sky

Hang about; the UPC EPG is absolutely appalling. Its so slow and buggy its beyond belief. On mine I have to wait about ten seconds after pressing the Guide button just so I can select a category; sometimes it wont open, other times it will just bring me back to the channel I was watching.

And I do have stations on the EPG that I cant access; Setanta 1 being one of them.

Sky are no angels, but their box and EPG are streets ahead of the mess you get with UPC.
