    Hey

I dont know whether ive thought of a market niche or maybe im just blind to there being a solution to this.

I have a DVD boxset of one of the finest shows to grace television in living memory. The problem is...the other day i found that one of the 28 disks had become irrepairably scratched - broken actually.

I'm not one for watching the same boxset over and over, but with this show i cant manage to put it down. Perhaps it is Gods way of telling me to get out and explore the world

Nonetheless, i ask - Is there a way of purchasing 1 disc out of a box set instead of either

    a) Stumping up the cash for the whole lot again :(
    b) Moving on

Download the episodes that were on that certain disc and burn them onto a DVD!

Yeh you better sort that out. Imagine inviting guests into your house and they realise that one of your DVDs to your boxset is missing. What would happen? They would laugh in your face and think less of you thats what would happen. I know i would:rolleyes:.

Some night you will find yourself at a party where the host has the same box set. Discretely remove the necessary disk and bring with you. Unless the box set is wrapped in plastic, the chances are that it will be a victimless, and therefore unnoticed, crime.

    The Sopranos was crap anyway

Just download the episodes on that disc again, simple!

Do it quick before you're banished from your friends for having an incomplete boxset................they'll probably lob their cheese and wine at you :P

Speaking of which, was at a friend's house recently and found that he had the entire Xena: Warrior Princess boxset! :pac:

EDIT: There's software you can use to rip the DVD to your HDD, depending on how badly scratched it is. A computer DVD drive would be more sophisticated than the average DVD player.

    * Advert in local paper asking if anyone else has same boxset, requesting help?
    * Look up on ebay?

...and if the boxset is "Sex in the city" - do yourself a favour and damage all the rest!
Your brain will be rewarded for it later. :pac:

If it were one or two disks in an otherwise clean collection, I'd download them and burn them (it isn't wrong to download something if you're replacing something you've already paid for!). If it was a bigger issue, like a whole season wasn't working, I'd fork over for a replacement.

Depending on the series of course.

Check your library to see if they have it. That's what we do.

Same with my West Wing collection:(

i know this is AH, but if you want proper advice:

Contact the shop / website where you bought the box set and ask them nicely if they could give you a replacement disc.

Alternatively, contact the distributor of the box set in writing or by phone explaining how much you enjoy the show and ask if they would sent a new disc. The distributors contact details should be printed on the box somewhere.

I'm going to have to check, but I think it was in Season 2.

I got it at Christmas and didn't watch it till the Summer (I was sooo busy), and when I took it out of the box and put it in, it was skipping.

I never did find out what they did with the Holocaust painting...

Thanks Biggins, but there is absolutely no need - fantastic show, but I will never again spend 122 hours of my life on a tv programme:D

I was ashamed when I totted it all up.:p

I'll watch the episodes online some day, and then, maybe, in 30-40 years time, rewatch the whole thing, and laugh with the youngsters about how things have changed, how the President used to be a man as opposed to a mega-computer, how hot Alison Janny used to be, and try to explain why they keep referring to Canada as if it was a separate country.

I have no intention of watching the whole thing again, I was just disappointed at the time when I was watching it through and couldn't see an episode.

Thanks though, it's a kind offer.

:D I've watched the whole thing twice at least.
There's no hope for me. :pac:

(Best tv show ever written by the way. Sorkin was a genius when at the helm.)

With luck it is one of the season four disks. Never thought much of season four or Glenn Close in it.

Of course if you have something else that has 28 dvds that is not the Shield, then serves you right for having crap taste.

I just started watching season 4 and thought it was picking up a bit with her in it. It's a watchable show, but that's about it. There's some very suspect acting and the plot leaves a lot to desired tbn. The Wire kills it!!
