What do people outside Nenagh do for internet?

I am outside Nenagh and have Vodafone broadband, (used to be BT). It is deathly slow. Never get above 0.4mbs on speedtest. It was 0.13mbs this morning. I've rang Vodafone a number of times but had no improvement whatsoever.

This is killing me. I was told by a very good and friendly sales person from Digiweb that I'll never have anything more than 2mb (probably a lot less) over the phone line due to our location from the Eircom station. Unfortunately I'm out of reach from Digiweb wireless.

What are my other options? Anyone else in the Nenagh area in the same predicament as me? Are there any wireless services in the Nenagh area?

I've done a bit of googling but just found crap websites (a lot out of date). I used getbroadband.ie but they returned 15 results in my area, all of which are over the phone line (I think). These were just different deals from 4 companies - Eircom, Digiweb, Imagine and Perlico.

Is satellite an option? Should I look into getting Sky TV with Sky broadband? Does that broadband go through its satellite?

Unfortunately I get crap mobile reception so I reckon mobile broadband is out of the question.

Please help me save my internet and my sanity!!!!

Off the top of my head there would be:-
    www.premierbroadband.net
    www.wirelessconnect.eu
    www.fwi.ie
    ....to name but a few.

Even good mobile can easily be poorer than your DSL and has a much lower cap.

Satellite does work everywhere, but decent quality, reliable satellite isn't that cheap for a decent cap. The cost of satellite bandwidth is the most expensive there is for an ISP.

You can't get it from Sky. Sky's Broadband is a phone line only product and only in the UK.

Typically you can't even use the same dish for TV and Satellite broadband as 1/2 the channels would be blocked by your uplink polarity. Sky/BBC/Freesat anyway is not a satellite location used by VSAT (Internet Terminals), they use other satellites, the dish points at a different place in the sky.

It's about a 90,000km round trip from you -> satellite -> Earth station with Internet access -> Satellite -> you so a "ping" or latency is about a minimum of 790ms. Mobile and Ripwave can actually be worse than this and feel worse at about 250ms as they don't have the clever "spoofing" and "caching" tricks Satellite (VSAT) has. Typical Mobile is about 130ms though.

Try Big Paddy's List and only if you rich and desperate go for Satellite, unless you want good speed but a very low cap.

BTW, most people in Ireland live outside Nenagh :)

Peter you could try these guys:

    http://arra.ie/broadband-wireless.html

now in the interest of openness, I myself do not have any connection with them, but my wife is related to one of the owners (first cousins).

myself i wouldn't "recommend" wireless broadband in any form, suffice to say fixed line is generally more reliable (fight it out amongst yourselves! ;)) but its better than midband misery!

Was going to try them, saw them in the Tatler free magazine. A number of serious typos on a brochure type website. That has put me off. I take indicators like that seriously. If they're reading, they should proofread their brochure site. Would probably have taken 15 minutes before publishing.

i take it you talking about there site ,i also take it you might have checked there wireless broadband packages,i would think most people who cant get a good service or even broadband service would be more interested in there service rather than there typos on site, too each there own

    Hi An Ri rua,

I work at Wireless Connect and saw your post today. I immediately checked out the website to locate and rectify any spelling mistakes. I managed to only find one. I do appreciate how simple errors like this can give a very bad impression of our company, but let me assure you that we do take great pride in the company's image, service and after sales service. If you are aware of any more mistakes that we have overlooked please let us know and we will deal with them asap. We always welcome criticism and challenges as we know that it can only serve to make us a better company.

Yes we do have a "Brochure type" website, promoting our broadband services. This was an intentional decision to keep it simple and straightforward for general internet users to access our services. We also run an e-commerce website which can be seen from the "Online Store" link, so as you can see the brochure type website was chosen not due to a lack of IT knowledge but on a marketing basis. I do appreciate you criticism, and if you have any other queries I would be more than happy to address them.

Sometimes fixing up internal wiring can make a big difference to speeds. Having any unnecessary extension wires/leads/sockets disconnected can make a big difference. Using the modem at the main (master) socket can also help with speeds.

Your grammar and spelling is also awful. It doesn't lend credibility at all. Can't take you seriously. Sorry

Thank you Michael, I'm glad you agree. Spelling typos give off a rushed, poorly planned image. If your service is good, everything about your brand should show that. I'll DM you with further typos.

    Kind regards

You mean to tell me you judge that man/woman's post purely on the extent of some relatively minor typographical errors? It's not like you were confronted with some text-speak. Well I can't take you seriously. Sorry.

Echo IT in Nenagh are doing wireless broadband out to some of the remote areas. Few buddies of mine out Templederry way and by Toomevara and Silvermines have it. Watching Netflix and all, meant to be some job
