    Hi Guys

has any one looked into doing their own printing.

My Mates company spend about 30K a year on printing catalogues (500 pages) and letterheads and small 6 page brochures in the last year. We do the design our selfs and send the files to the printers who will send us on the finished product.

As you can see its alot of money to be handing out so my question is has anyone gone down the route of doing their own printing by buying a proper printing machine etc. Any help would be appreciated

Unless your quantities are in a certain middle range I would not consider printing myself. Printing litho is too complicated. Printing digital for large quantities is expensive and quality is not as good. If you do medium runs of digital it might make some sense.

You won't be printing that sort of stuff without investing quite a lot of money. Why not try to find a cheaper printer, if cost is such a big issue?

Usually the versatility needed for printing the various requirements are too broad for 1 single machine to do this in house in most companies.

Basically, in your situation, not all the materials required are necessarily best printed on the one machine.

I think of it like this, using a €10 hammer to knock down a wall, sure you could do it, and €10 is such a small amount of money,BUT you'd be better served hiring a ball & crane for the day and doing it in 1/2 hour.

So do you want to buy a ball & crane for €hundreds of thousands, or buy a €10 hammer and spend weeks? Neither, so you hire the most suitable.

Think of outsourcing your printing like this. Getting the most suitable equipment for the task every time.

    Hope this helps!
