Hopefully this hasn't been posted somewhere else already and I didn't spot it :D I decided to correct German Junior Cert exams this July and would like to hear from anyone who has done it already what the experience is like and how many hours a day does it take more or less (obviously this is also dependent on how fast you work!). I don't know how many scripts are given to each person yet but am sure I will find out all at the conference in July... I expect it to be a very busy month but hopefully will learn a lot!

Sile, fair play to you. As I know you are just after completing the PGDE (like me) - I can't believe you have the guts to do this so soon!! ie: I couldn't take any more work now until September!!

You will most certainly learn a lot. I have never done it, but once watched my mam do it. There is a fair amount of pressure involved in it alrite and a good bit of travel too from what I can remember. I think she was doing a good 6 hours every day just to finish on time. She didn't do it every year though.

    Best of luck.

Thanks! I decided to do it for the experience and the badly- needed-after-a-year-of-working-for-free cash :pac: There will still be a nice long month on the beach in June before I tackle it! I didn't realise there was any travel involved really, apart from going to and from Athlone for the conference before you correct...I would have thought they couriered the scripts to you for correction, or at least that you picked them up fairly locally. Might be wrong there as I haven't done it before, I'll know all by the end of it :D

I corrected CSPE the summer after my dip a few years ago. Its very stressful alright. I got about 320 to correct. You get the big sacks of scripts in Athlone to bring home with you. Then you will have trips to the post office about twice a week returning sample scripts and paperwork. Its difficult work and you will need to do 6 maybe 7 hours a day every day for the period you're correcting. But the money is handy - especially after a year of dip poverty! - and its great experience too.

That is all the travel that's involved, unless you consider going to the post office an epic journey! You take the scripts home with you from Athlone.

Fair dues to you Síle, it's great experience and in an interview situation will earn you serious brownie points!

have correcedt LC maths for the last 5 yrs and I have always found it a positive experience for the most part. Expenses are good despite last year's cuts and once you out in a decent shift everyday, make the deadlines etc you will have plenty of time. Indeed somedays I would take off or go play golf for an afternoon and still there would not be a panic.

For JC I usually spent 5/6 hours and the same for LC because I always did that 7 days a week. Hope that helps!
