    Northside -
Bull wall is always good once the tides are right. Portmarnock could be a little busy this sunday since theres a sprint tri on.
Malahide estuary is good but can be prone to lots of jelly fish if the weather has been warm ... so you'll be fine at the moment ;)

    Southside -
Seapoint from the Martello tower is usually pretty safe.
    Killiney beach

    Wicklow
Bray or greystones ... both north and south beaches are fine in greystones although the south is usually safer since it has a lifeguard ... from end of May on I think

40ft - not dependant on the tide and usually plenty of people about which is good from a safety perspective.

I prefer to swim at Seapoint (when the tide allows) as you can easily set a target of the Pier and back.

Interested has covered the best options... my pick of them is Sea Point - lifeguards are usually on duty & are very helpful about pointing out landmarks so you know how far you swam. Usually a decent crowd around so pretty safe.

Otherwise Bull Wall is pretty safe too - just watch out for the crazy lady who appears there occasionally!

No crazy lady there this evening - not warm enough for her and her gin yet!:p Bull Wall was lovely this evening.
Tide changes so keep an eye on them here:

Try High Rock between Portmarnock and Malahide at 12 any Sunday, the Eastern Bay swimmers are always there and many will swim to the Martello Tower and back when the weather gets warmer.

I need to practice my open water swimming and I'm looking for suitable locations in North County Dublin. A couple of questions, where exactly is High Rock between Portmarnock and Malahide? If I was to try Malahide estuary, where would be the best place to start? Thanks.

Starting at the Martello tower in Portmarnock and travelling along the coast towards Malahide, you get to a point where cars can pull in and park. A little after that, there's a steps that goes down to a stoney beach where there's a walkway out to the water, which has a ladder down into the sea. You might miss it when driving by in a car (it's hidden behind a grass embankment) but you would see it if you walk for 5 mins Northwards from the Martello tower.

    Hi,

Would anyone know if Dollymount would be suitable in the evenings at present for a beginner-y open water swim? I like the idea of being on a beach as I could hopfully gauge the depth reasonably well.

Thanks (first tri coming up very soon!!)
