    Hi All,

I am setting up a small business and hope to have it up and running by early june.

I will be registering the business name next week.
I will need a .ie domain.

I know that it takes a few weeks for a business name to be approved, is there any way in which i can purchase the domain name without having to wait for the business name to be approved as i want to start the business as soon as possible. Can the cro issue me with a reciept stating that i can register the domain before having the business name actually registered?

    Thanks,

    Neil

I am not really sure of the question here but i am guessing you are worried that the business name you are wanting to use may not be allowed by cro and you don't want to register the domain name before you are sure??

I will plough on anyway - there is nothing stopping you registering and domain name you like (allowing for trademarks that is) before your company registration is complete. Once you have started the registration on core.ie you will get all the details you need and where to send the €20 filing payment.
Go register the domain name (here for example http://hosting.digiweb.ie/) and get your site up and running to test for bugs

    Hi,
The Irish .IE controller won't allow you complete your registration until they get a copy of the business reg or Ltd co number. Any .IE will remain in limbo until either are received.

Business registrations are quickish so do both in parallel. Contact the CRO by phone and tell them that you need your registration asap to secure your .IE. I've done this in the past and they've been very helpful.

    Best of luck
    Andy

I have a similar thread about this in the web design forum. A friend of mine was in this exact same situation (I registered the domain for him). The IEDR were most unhelpful. He needed to get stationery printed and distributed immediately with his new email address.

    I sent in:
    The receipt from the CRO
A headed letter from his bank manager stating his intent to trade under that name
A headed letter from him stating what the domain would be used for, and his background in the particular industry

None of that was enough, and the domain wasn't approved until we finally got the CRO number. That took the guts of the 30 day registration window. Also - there were no existing company or business names that were the same (or even similar) as his, in case that made a difference.

Well, there are discretionary names available - but it's certainly a lot harder to get them.

Go with a dot com. Unless you are only dealing in Ireland then go with the .ie. If you are looking for UK, US and European sales it's better to have just one .com address.

In other words if you are going to export then forget the .ie and go with a .com. No need to jump through hoops.

Dont limit yourself to just the .com, get the .ie and the .com and if you are dealing within Europe consider getting the .Eu also.

Having one address as the previous poster said isnt really a good idea. You are limiting yourself and risking someone else getting the .ie and running a similar business to yours and you are also ruling out the opportunity to later expand into other markets. In terms of SEO etc if you were dealing with other countries you could have a seperate website in each country with focused SEO bringing traffic to the website.

As regards the .ie domain name it was possible to get the domain reserved with a receipt from the CRO a while back but this may have been due to a backlog, im not sure if they are still accpeting them.

The IEDR will accept a pdf receipt from CRO for the RBN application while you are waiting for the RBN to be processed.

there are no requirements at renewal of a .ie domain name, once the domain is registered the IEDR do not come back looking for further information, all you have to do at renewal is pay the renewal fee
