Fire engines, etc. on the N7.

    Curiosity is killing me!

Coming home on Wednesday evening just off the Limerick South Ring I came across a brand new fire engine on a 10LH plate. It struck me as unusual, it was clear that it wasn't on a shout.

Was on the way back down the N7 this afternoon from Dublin and between Portlaoise and Birdhill I spotted at least 4 other new 10 reg fire appliances, several pickup based fire rescue vehnicles and an NI reg BMW X5 with full fire service kit out, including blues and two's. These were all stretched out over the space of about an hour rather than travelling in convoy.

Most of the appliances seemed to be Scania based. Not entirely sure about the rescue vehicles, Isuzu possibly, but the livery caught my eye more than the vehicle.

Anyone know what its all about? Was a large consignment delivered in one go to a southern port or is there a company all of a sudden fitting out or bodybuilding these in the deep south/south west?

If anyone knows it would satisfy a burning curiosity!

I saw a 10 reg fire support vehicle at the Groody roundabout in Limerick today too. It wasn't a Limerick based vehicle either, it was somewhere up the country. Can't remember exactly where. There must have been a load of new vehicles bought recently

Possibly being built / fitted out by someone around Limerick? Would have thought Wilker Auto Conversions in Clara would have been the ones to do that, but perhaps someone around Limerick undercut them for the contract.

Would hve been wilker in clara? As said....

    Or hpmp in carlow? http://www.hpmp.ie/recent.aspx

Or possibly coming to/from sidhean teo in galway? http://www.sidheanteo.ie/

Could have been a number or reasons to be honest.....

For example all emergency ambulances have been imported from germany recently..

Could have been either - but could have also been one of our new ones as well :Dwww.quinnrv.com :)

There's a Fire Chief conference in Limerick, and we built a new unit to display at it as well.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

The reg numbers that I saw were not local, e.g. LH, KK, CW, iirc.

That makes sense. Thought our budgetary woes were past if all the local authorities were getting new hardware!

The unit I saw on Wednesday evening is shown in one of the photo's from your link. The X5 looks similar to what I saw on the road yesterday but thought from the glance I caught that it was on NI plates.

There is a 10 reg one in Newbridge, absolutey gorgeous looking machine, must have cost a few quid. I can't remember if its Scania or Volvo though.
