Now i know there is a ressison...however....near where i live there are a fair few restaurants and there always full especially at the weekends....town (Dublin ) appears to be as busy as ever...pubs are still busy...

About half of my family and friends are in the public services but the other half are in private employment and none have lost there jobs... ( in the place my sister works one person was made redundant and there was a bit of rejigging of roles that all )....my partner who is an engineer in the construction industry did lose his job but he is beginning to pick up bit of work again..

So exactly where do people thing the recession is affecting things.

The one thing i have noticesed is that there is less spending in retail and people are becoming more focused on getting value.

Lots of the recently unemployed people would probably say that it seems real enough to them..

It's effects can be seen all over the country, just in varying shapes and sizes!

Some towns and cities have been hit worse than others, each person thinking that their hometown has been hit the worst.

For the record, Waterford has been hit the worst and we're hoping that we can be released into the Atlantic so that we can relaunch and rebrand ourselves.

Its only the unemployed that is effected as that has risen from 130000 to over 400000 so there is less benifets to go around.

    Of course it's real!

    We named it Stephen!

It's obviously more real for some than it is for others,

i.e the unemployed mortgage holders with families

For me it's not as bad as that but i still have the 10% deduction,

so i would say it is very real it just affects people differently due to their circumstances

During the 'celtic tiger', the rich got richer and the poor got into debt.

The people you see out and about did well or are family of those that did well or just simply didn't borrow much during the so called 'boom'.

This can be seen depending on where you go in Dublin.

I was at the Ha'Penny Comedy night on Tuesday and there were five people there.

They had more comedians than members of the audience.

On the way home I drove up Camden St and the place was packed with fake tanned air heads and Rugby playing types.

So yes, the recession is real, just more real for some than others.

The recession hits some working classes harder than others.. Some people benefit from it, actually.

on no you actually have to contribute a realistic amount towards your pension now. how about that!

What has that got to do with the recession, its just common sense

I SEE loads of shops closing down, and vacant lots, it depends on where you live.IF you are on a good wage in a stable job ,it might not effect you much.AND some items are cheaper now than they were in 2007, and if you have savings you might not notice it much. And some people did not invest in bank shares or mediocre pension schemes.
